Are these people completely ignorant, dishonest, or both? The tsunami had absolutely nothing to do with global warming. Sea level has been rising for 20,000 years. A 30 foot wave traveling several hundred miles an hour is unaffected by a couple of millimeters of difference in sea level. The stupidity is enough to make you scream.

How enlightening! Not to mention, also, that in most subduction earthquakes, the coastline SUBSIDES adjacent to the sudden uplift offshore (the one that displaces the water). Even a FOOT of sea-level rise becomes essentially meaningless, especially in tectonically-active areas…with there being no way to really separate how much sea level variation is eustatic (global) versus local due to ground movement. Another layperson speculating on another non-mechanism.

It is interesting to note that shortly AFTER the Tsunami northern Japan was hit with sub-zero temperatures and snow. Did global warming also cause this?

But, as to the greater question, “Are these people completely ignorant, dishonest, or both?” I’d say its a great mixture of people that possess one or both traits. For instance, algore, I believe is both ignorant and dishonest. While the jury is still out on many other players, I think this McKibben is simply ignorant. I, also, think Steve needs to add another trait to consider, “delusional”.

He reminds me greatly of the infamous “Deadfish” Rahm Emanuel….Don’t let a crises go to waste, who could ever forget that stupid statement. Just like Algore, “Moonbat” is now an authority on tectonics, even though he makes no explanation of what happened, yet, he jumped right into his delusional spiel on global warming. “Moonbat” McKibby baby need to start wearing a fedora to emulate his idle/mentor Jim Hansen. Sounds similar to what the CEO of UK’s National Grid said a few weeks ago about there not being power all the time.
It would be funny, except for the fact that many people have bought into this drivel and won’t even listen when you try to set them straight.
Apparently McKibben thinks that sea-level wasn’t rising pre-industrialization. While that’s not completely moronic, it is completely ignorant, but then he’s in good company with a number of other journalists.
There’s not a country in the world more modern and more civilized than Japan.
No mention of Japan being a crowded island nation, with a lack of land level enough to live on, short of natural resources and forced to import food and raw materials.
I’m not surprised the supermarket shelves are empty after an earthquake and tsunami.
