As killer storm Hurricane Irene sets her sights on Massachusetts today, packing powerful winds, massive storm surges and drenching rain, the governor issued a clear but simple warning — stay home.

“It is unsafe for people to be outside,” Gov. Deval Patrick said. “Stay indoors and off the roads.”

Reflecting the urgency of that statement, the MBTA announced late yesterday that all bus and train service will be suspended today, and that the T’s RIDE operation would make only trips deemed medically necessary. Massport spokesman Phil Orlandella said last night that he expects no flight traffic in our out of Logan International Airport today.

“Zero. Big zero,” Orlandella said. “The airlines are trying to reramp up for Monday.”

  1. This is just to help Obie and his Kenyan Clown Circus show everyone you need big brother! What a farce!

  2. Mike Davis says:

With that kind pf wind the transit authorities will have to take a week to inspect for damages.
I can not even launch a kite in winds 4 MPH!

  3. Beanzzz says:

Yeah, I guess all those trees got together and decided to fall down on their own.

And if some obscure website says the wind speed is 4 mph, then it must be true.
