In 1957, Hartford Insurance predicted a permanent drought for southwest Texas.
At the time the prediction was made, Texas was experiencing a seven year long extreme drought – the worst in Texas history.
Immediately after Don Friedman made his ingenious forecast of permanent drought, the drought broke and Texas became very wet.

Insurance companies make pessimistic climate forecasts because it gives them an excuse to raise their premiums and make more money. They have a blatant conflict of interest, as does the government – who want to raise taxes.

Just goes to show that as soon as anyone makes a prediction about the weather, it’s bound to change.
Insurance companies now replace all the siding if one piece of siding is damaged. They also replace the roof if a couple shingles are missing. If both, they total the house. So no wonder it’s a billion dollar disaster every time the wind gusts over 40 mph.
