    Here’s a good idea:
Hitch climate tax to the ACTUAL CLIMATE, says top economist on The Register – http://theregister.co.uk/2013/07/04/mckitrick_climate_tax_hitch_actual_climate_genius/

Unfortunately, there has been little improvement whenever Republicans have had their crack at governing. Between 2001 and 2007, there were Republicans in control of both Congress and the Presidency. Did any of our problems get solved as a result? No, it does not appear to be the case.
Surpluses turned into large deficits, runaway immigration, unfunded wars of dubious value, all quickly followed by a big crash.

Mostly correct, as the progressive tax & spend mentality has driven the right further left with the loudest and most outrageous and manipulative ways thinkable.
At least our current president has bridged the ideological divide for us and brought our debt to reasonable levels:)

The two wars had something to do with that. Wars that wouldn’t have happened had 9/11 not. Had Clinton admin connected the dots better. Had they not been overly concerned with civil rights abuses.
Things usually go full circle, given time. Syria and NSA anyone?

Actually, I knew some national security people back during the Clinton years. They were vitally concerned with Islamists and other extremists. You’ll recall the first Twin Towers bombing? That was their wake-up call.

Their greatest focus was on a biological attack. But the Beltway agencies were leaving no stone unturned. Then when Bush came on board, priorities shifted. Richard Clarke was taken off the GWOT and put on cyber-security. John O’Neill was let go, and found work as head of Twin Towers security. In fact he was among the victims that day.

From that point, security efforts dwindled from lack of interest. And despite some ninety warnings received from around the world in 2000-2001 (including one alert passed along by the Taliban government) little interest was shown. So a successful strike was pretty much assured.

RE: michael – “Richard Clarke was taken off the GWOT and put on cyber-security. John O’Neill was let go”

When we had Osama in our sights, both Clarke and O’Niell voted against taking him out. Because of their idiocy, Michael Scheuer called them the principal architects of 9/11

O’Niell was fired because he was sloppy. He lost an FBI cell phone and Palm Pilot, improperly borrowed a car from a safe house, and lost track of a briefcase containing a description of every counterespionage and counterterrorism program in New York.

“Over 30 Bald Eagles in the back yard.”

    Independence day – seems appropriate.

  4. Olaf Koenders says:

It’s ironic that 4th of July fireworks to celebrate “freedom” are banned. What’s more ironic is that most of the USSA’s “free” people don’t realise it.

Gordon Liddy told the story of taking a friend from Italy to a baseball game. The crowd sang the National Anthem. When they sang, “Land of the free,” the Italian burst out laughing.

  5. Traitor In Chief says:

The GOP would do much better if they were not continuously dragged leftward by the psychotic Progtards. Lack of Term limits has caused the most extreme left to rise into leadership. By taking over the media and all forms of learning, the left were then able to direct/frame the discussion, smear the very founding principles of our nation, and intimidate and influence what remains of the right in the GOP. The left is still the problem. The GOP have tiptoed rightward when they had power (which has only been so in recent years) while the left is Pole vaulting further leftward.

Admittedly, very few in this nation understood what was going wrong, myself included. I knew little about the left until investigating the CAGW issue.

The other thing the left has going for it is utter lack of regard for the rule of law. They are far more corrupt and willing to stoop to anything to gain more power.

Update: it is now ‘progressives’ vs Americans. Freedom can survive a liberal, but it cannot coexist with progressives.

Looking over these comments, above, it seems clear that there will be no end of strife between Democrats and Republicans. The hatred is too strong.

Too bad Lincoln came along, with his conviction that the Union should remain indivisible. A peaceful agreement to disagree could have resulted in a split, where each side could have its own country. But that never happened– so we are condemned to be bunkmates in a prison of our own making. And you would all finally be “free at last”.

    • gator69 says:

Obviously you did not read my comment. But what else is new? You accused me of lying and then ran away.

I think we can all see where the real problem ‘lies’.

      • michael says:

I didn’t say you were “lying”. Your problem is your inability to stay on topic and address any issues someone has raised that you want to disagree with. Instead of commenting on the topic, you prefer to vilify and insult. As you’ve done once again here.

Do you have anything to add about whether we might have been able to moderate our political strife back in 1860, just by allowing those states that couldn’t live with the federal government to secede quietly and go their own way? If so, please give us your opinion. Because that was the topic I raised. And there’s certainly more than one side to it.

        • gator69 says:

So the truth is off topic? Stop spinning.

My comment here was a bullseye, unlike your BS.

The entire boatload of CAGW lies floats upon one BIG lie, and that is that what we are seeing is unnatural. I only point that out as a matter of fact. If you can’t handle the truth the F off. I can’t stand cry babies.

        • michael says:

So do you have anything to say about the topic?

        • gator69 says:

Compare my post to the quote above and ask your mom to help you figure it out.

I’m busy, and am not your babysitter.

  8. David, UK says:

    It’s liberals and Americans.
Or to put it in international terms: It’s Classic Liberals and pseudo liberals.
