  1. All we will lose is our lives, our liberty, and our pursuit of happiness. There seems to be enough voters who think that is a small price to pay for equality of results, social justice, and getting even with all those evil rich people (ie fairness). Then, on one cold dark night, they will wake up in a post modern version of hell and cry: “I didn’t mean for THIS to happen.”

Yes they did but they didn’t bother to identify the consequences of their choices. They believed they could consume that which has not been produced by having the government spend money that does not exist. They forgot that money is not wealth and that, no matter how abundant, money must have actual goods and services to buy to be a value. They demanded the government increasingly to make it more difficult for the producers of wealth to be productive. The government obliged by increasingly strangling the producers by a fine mesh of rules, regulations, laws, requirements, and taxes ultimately making production impossible. The so called equality they demanded is the equality of poverty, despair, death, and destruction.

See the history of the 20th century for massive instructive detail.

With voting turnout well above 100% in many districts, voting isn’t the issue!

    Steven,

Society is very sick now, worldwide.

The question is how can society be returned to sanity?

Fear, anger and resentments, whether justified or not, are blocking progress.

I have been guilty of venting anger myself, knowing that my government has been less than candid about:

    1. The Sun
    2. The Atomic Nucleus
    3. Enforcing the Constitution

But I also know that FEAR of nuclear annihilation convinced world leaders to deceive the public in 1945.

    Would I have reacted differently?

I do not know. So I need to let go of anger and try to help find a way for society to move past mistakes of 1945 so we can all reclaim our birthright to live happy, joyous and free.

I do not know how to make that happen, but the blame game is not helping.

  4. DEEBEE says:

Steven, much as I agree — the recent alternative gave us Medicare Part D and bank bailouts. Only better by comparison. I despair that we are all so f—ed

    • GoneWithTheWind says:

I tend to agree about Medicare part D (because it is expensive and there were better options) except that if you look at the vote a majority of Dems voted for it. If you look at the vote for Obamacare 100% of Republicans voted against it.
As for bank bailouts you may recall this too was voted on by congress with a majority on both sides voting for it. But what you seemed to have forgotten is that the first “bailout” was LOANS not free money. These lonas were paid back and disappeared into the black hole that is Democrat spending. So there is a difference between the two parties. Not as much as I would like but a big difference never the less.

  5. Andy Oz says:

If you keep electing communist academics, (like we did in Australia with Obama’s girlfriend, until we recently got sacked them) you Americans will get crazy stupid taxes like Obamacare and a carbon tax. And the Carbon Tax will make you all so much poorer than Obamacare could!
Australia modelled it going to 131-275 dollars per tonne by 2050. That would have meant Australia giving 100’s of billion of life savings to the London Carbon Credit thieves and charlatans. Only panicked sheep allowed that scam to become law. Now the law is being repealed. And the London thieves are apoplectic! Communist academics are only slightly less dangerous than fascist psychopaths. They deserve impeachment.

Look, over there. . . A banana tree on the lawn of that big White House.

It probably can’t be fixed without first doing a full crash & burn. You need lots of fire to burn off the diseased parts so the rest of the body can recover and heal.

It will get much uglier when the free stuff taps run out of money.
