I’m flying into Detroit, where the temperature is a cool 75 degrees. But June 16 wasn’t always a cool day in the US. In 1913, temperatures were over 100 degrees in parts of Michigan, and almost the entire eastern half of the US was over 90 degrees.
On this date in 1952, the extent of the heat was similar but a lot more 100 degree temperatures.
June 16 used to be a hot day in the US prior to 1960, but temperatures over the last 55 years have been much cooler.
The Northwest Passage is blocked by very thick ice in the Beaufort Sea.
And cold temperatures are forecast there through the end of the month.
By the time this cold spell ends, the sun will be past its peak elevation in the Northern Hemisphere and will be sliding back towards the long Arctic winter.

The US hasn’t had a hurricane landfall during June for over 30 years, but the US had three June hurricanes in 1886 – which was the most active hurricane year on record for the US. Sixty years ago this month, Hurricane Audrey killed hundreds of people in Texas and Louisiana.

The forecast high today in the DC area is 94 degrees. On this date in 1902, it was 100 degrees, with every day except one above 90 degrees during the first half of June 1902.
Summer maximum temperatures in the US have plummeted since the 1930’s.
And the frequency of hot summer days has also plummeted in the US since the 1930’s.
There is zero indication that heatwaves are getting worse. The data shows the exact opposite. So how do these fraudulent studies get through peer review and into the press?
