Our energy future is too important to be left to people devoid of engineering skills, like Barack Obama, Michael Mann, Leonordo Di Caprio, Bette Midler and Katharine Hayhoe. Even climate hack James Hansen understands this.

I’m just back from skiing with the dogs. Temperatures here were -20C last night. Looking south, the wind turbines at NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab) are motionless. They are producing  0 watts of power.

Looking to the north, the Boulder coal fired power plant is keeping the city running. With harmless CO2 and H2O coming out of the stack, it is generating 186,000,000 watts. It generates this 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is not dependent on the sun shining or the wind blowing.

Renewable energy is a farce. It fails just when you need it the most. It will never replace even one fossil fuel powered plant, because it is not reliable and requires 100% backup.

I am an engineer. I helped design essential products currently in use by hundreds of millions of people on a day to day basis. What products have Barack Obama, Michael Mann, Leonordo Di Caprio, Bette Midler and Katharine Hayhoe designed?

What right do these clowns have to question an engineer’s judgement about engineering? We need to get them out of the way, and put serious human beings in charge of the discussion. The future depends on it.

New York used to have a lot of hot days prior to 1960, but it rarely happens any more.

The frequency of cold nights hasn’t changed, but this year was by far the coldest on record – with more than one night out of twelve below zero F.

January through March was the coldest on record in New York this year.

New York governor Mario Cuomo is working hard to protect the state from overheating, a problem which exists only in his mind.

The Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas is having a white out.  This is due to an overheated atmosphere caused by your SUV.

In 1949, the first illegal aliens arrived in Roswell, New Mexico.

More recently, New Mexico has been plagued by an endemic alien problem common throughout the west – the carpetbagging progressive Udall. (Here in Colorado we recently exterminated our Udall, but New Mexico still has one on the loose.)  Senator Tom Udall is convinced that all of the trees in New Mexico are doomed, as are winter sports.

Roswell is expecting their largest snowfall on record today, 12+ inches with 20 inches expected over the next two days.

That would beat the 1988 record one day snowfall.

The forecast storm total would make this the fifth snowiest year on record in Roswell, where snowfall has been increasing since the 1950’s.

The permanent drought appears brutal at nearby Ski Apache. I’ll be keeping an eye on it today as the drought progresses.

Just north of the New Mexico border, Wolf Creek Ski Area in Colorado was closed yesterday – due to too much snow.

Our top scientists at the IPCC say that heavy snowstorms will decrease due to global warming.

the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia,within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

The frequency of warm winter days in the US has been declining for a century. In 1954, almost one fourth of winter days in the US were over 60F, but in 2010 the percent of warm days just over 10%.

Similarly, the frequency of hot summers days has declined. Warmth is becoming a thing of the past in the US.

Coal powered electricity has been demonized by complete morons, like the President of the United States. Here are the three coal power plants I depend on.

The Rawhide Generating Station serves all of Northern Colorado. It is essentially pollution free.

The Dickerson, Maryland power plant serves much of Washington DC area. It is essentially pollution free.

The Boulder power plant serves Boulder and much of the surrounding region. It is essentially pollution free.

CO2 is not black. It didn’t give Malia asthma. It is not a pollutant. When are these anti-coal morons going to be silenced once and for all?

More than 97% of the residents of Oz believed that a wizard controlled their climate. But one little dog actually looked at the evidence.

On Christmas Day sixty years ago, Bette Midler was 10 years old. Odd that she doesn’t remember the record warmth in the US, or the record flooding in California that day.
