The Washington Post is claiming that a one hour long downslope warming event at one location in Antarctica is evidence of global warming.

At 6 am on March 24, Esperanza Station had strong westerly downslope winds which raised the temperature for an hour. By noon, temperatures had dropped and by mid-afternoon were back to freezing.

How anyone could be dense enough to believe this has anything to do with global warming, defies explanation.

Need another indicator of climate warming in Antarctica? The trio of weather bloggers at Weather Underground report the temperature there likely hit a record-breaking 63.5F (17.5C) Tuesday.

The balmy reading was logged at Argentina’s Esperanza Base, which lies on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Irrespective of whether the record stands, it fits right into the pattern of rapid climate warming recently observed in the Antarctic Peninsula region. The British Antarctic Survey writes this region has warmed about 5F (2.8 C) in the last 50 years. “[This] makes this the most rapidly warming region in the Southern Hemisphere – comparable to rapidly warming regions of the Arctic,” it notes.

Let’s pretend for a minute that their BS was true.  What would be the consequence of a slowing Gulf Stream? It would mean less warm water transported to the Arctic, lower Arctic temperatures, less Greenland melt, and growth of Arctic ice.

They are shooting themselves in the foot with their own nonsense.

NSIDC insists that Arctic ice is the lowest on record for winter, despite the fact that both area and extent are higher than several other years.

We saw this Bald Eagle while canoeing this evening. The local wind farm operators are no doubt upset that one got away from them.

I spent the day cycling, canoeing, and enjoying family and friends. The world looks perfect to me. Greens imagine that it is falling apart.

I split my time between two liberal Democratic cities – Fort Collins, CO and Columbia, MD. Both cities have excellent bike trails*, and the cities were specifically set up to encourage healthy, environmentally friendly lifestyles. The bike trails are the main reason I choose to live in those cities.

In Fort Collins, it has been a huge success. Fort Collins is probably the fittest city on the planet, and the bike trails are constantly packed with cyclists. Columbia on the other hand has very low usage of the trails, and no one would accuse the population of being fit.

So what’s the difference? I don’t know.

* The bike trails in Fort Collins are largely due to the efforts of climate skeptic Dr. Bill Gray’s late wife, who was the very liberal Democratic mayor during the 1980’s.
