Pacific islands growing, not sinking

Climate scientists have expressed surprise at findings that many low-lying Pacific islands are growing, not sinking.

Islands in Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia are among those which have grown, largely due to coral debris, land reclamation and sediment.

The findings, published in the journal Global and Planetary Change, were gathered by comparing changes to 27 Pacific islands over the last 20 to 60 years using historical aerial photos and satellite images.

Auckland University’s Associate Professor Paul Kench, a member of the team of scientists, says the results challenge the view that Pacific islands are sinking due to rising sea levels associated with climate change.

“Eighty per cent of the islands we’ve looked at have either remained about the same or, in fact, gotten larger,” he says.

“Some of those islands have gotten dramatically larger, by 20% or 30%.

German researchers have established the height of the Greenland and Antarctic ice caps with greater precision than ever before. The new maps they have produced show that the ice is melting at an unprecedented rate.

The maps, produced with a satellite-mounted instrument, have elevation accuracies to within a few metres. Since Greenland’s ice cap is more than 2,000 metres thick on average, and the Antarctic bedrock supports 61% of the planet’s fresh water, this means that scientists can make more accurate assessments of annual melting.

Dr Veit Helm and other glaciologists at the Alfred Wegener Institute’sHelmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany, report in the journal The Cryosphere that, between them, the two ice sheets are now losing ice at the unprecedented rate of 500 cubic kilometres a year.

The area of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets combined is 16,000,000 km². The claim is that they are losing 500 km³/year – which would be .03 metres/per year. Yet their accuracy is “within a few metres” – which means that they are claiming precision two orders of magnitude higher than their accuracy. Both ice sheets could just as easily have been claimed to be showing gain of ice as loss, based on their methodology.

The second problem is that they are conflating claimed ice loss with “melt”  The surface mass balance of just Greenland showed 300 GT of ice gain this past year, which is nearly the same as the claimed loss from both ice sheets. And even if the net balance was negative, it would be due to glacial flow into the ocean – rather than melt.

The third problem is that they printed a map of elevations with higher elevations colored red, to fool the reader into believing that the red color has something to do with warmth or melting. It doesn’t. In fact, the red areas almost never experience any melting.

These people are either beyond stupid, or hard core fraudsters – and need to be called out as such.

Arctic sea ice extent has not changed for a week, and is now 66% higher than the same date in 2012. It remains just below the 2006 minimum.

Humans can not possibly get any stupider than climate scientists.

Paris (AFP) – Sea levels around Antarctica have been rising a third faster than the global average, a clear sign of high meltwater runoff from the continent’s ice sheet, scientists said on Sunday.

Satellite data from 1992 to 2011 found the sea surface around Antarctica’s coast rose by around eight centimetres (3.2 inches) in total compared to a rise of six cm for the average of the world’s oceans, they said.

These morons think that Antarctica is melting down at -50C, and that the runoff water pools into an elevated mound which remains around Antarctica’s coast year after year. If that were true, a daily high tide would never recede.

The breathtaking stupidity of these people defies explanation. A more plausible explanation would be that increased glacial weight is causing the land to subside.

In 1837, the Maldives were disappearing in to the sea.

The frequency of 90 degree days in the US is plummeting, and this year has had the second fewest on record. The only year with fewer 90 degree readings in the US was 1992, which was cooled by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. The three coolest summers all occurred above 350 PPM CO2

NCDC has been losing station data at an impressive rate since 1990. Undaunted by the need for actual thermometer data, they simply make up temperatures for the missing stations. As of today, 31% of USHCN “final” station data is fake.

If they continue to lose data at the current rate, it will be almost 100% fake by the year 2020 – and no doubt they will continue to report to a precision of 0.01 degrees.

As unbelievable as this seems, it is not a joke.

The Cause Of An Ice Age

It has been known for over 110 years that the primary driver of climate on Earth is variations in the planet’s orbit and rotation. Because the Earth’s orbit is elliptical, some seasons are longer than others. Depending on which way the planet’s axis is tilted at any given time, this can either mean either long summers, or long winters.

Precession of the Earth’s axis over time produces alternating cold and warm periods, and opposite in the opposite hemispheres.

Long before climate science went completely brain dead under the stewardship of James Hansen, this was well understood, and was also understood to be the cause of the MWP – which the Climategate criminals  have since tried to erase.

I changed my environment to use the identical set of 1,218 stations for GHCN HCN daily data, as are used for the  USHCN monthly data.

We are of course familiar with the hockey stick of data tampering being done between raw and final USHCN monthly data.

 But it is worse than it seems. Before they even to get to “raw monthly” data, they have already cooled the past by 0.1ºF relative to their raw daily data.

There seems to be no limit to the amount of cheating being done with the temperature record.
