NASA knows that climate change is real, because trace amounts of a colorless, odorless, normally undetectable gas have risen. It is difficult to comprehend how anyone can be that stupid.
I have discovered an even better correlation. Perfect in fact.
As the oceans warm, they outgas CO2 – and vice-versa, That is why the CO2 curve follows the temperature curve in the ice core record.
The geniuses at NASA are correlating carts to horses.
We all owe Fred Singer and Bill Gray a debt of gratitude for keeping sanity in the climate discussion over the past four decades.
The experiential part has to do with a drumbeat of climate-related disasters around the world, all actively reported by the news media: hurricanes and tornadoes, droughts and wildfires, extreme heat waves and equally extreme cold, rising sea levels and floods. Even when people have doubts about the causal relationship of global warming to these episodes, they cannot help being psychologically affected. Of great importance is the growing recognition that the danger encompasses the entire earth and its inhabitants. We are all vulnerable.
All common weather related events are now “climate disasters”
Sixty years ago, New England was about to get slammed by two major (category 3-5) hurricanes in a row. They were the last major hurricanes to hit New England.
If this happened today, climate scientists like James Hansen and Kevin Trenberth would appear on television and say they are 99% certain it was due to global warming, and would have been impossible before 1970.
The school year is beginning, and no student has experienced Al Gore’s inconvenient truth during their lifetime. But almost all have suffered through his sci-fi flick.
By the time the hiatus ends, many of them may be grandparents. Assuming the government still permits that.
In 1988, NASA’s James Hansen published these three forecasts of global warming doom :
At his Congressional testimony that year he said that the uppermost curve, Scenario A, is “Business As Usual.” Scenario C assumed that no new CO2 was added to the atmosphere after the year 2000
So far, temperatures (normalized to 1980) are below Hansen’s zero CO2 growth Scenario C.
Government experts are now saying that the global warming hiatus may continue for another decade. I plotted that below.
That would put temperatures almost 1C below Hansen’s BAU Scenario A. The data indicates that climate sensitivity to CO2 is essentially zero, meaning that James Hansen’s global warming crisis is non-existent. It’s dead, Jim.
Laurel, Maryland is just down the road. They have recorded three 90 degree days this year – the fewest on record. The average number per year is 29, with a peak of 68 in the year 1900.

It is true that our estimates for the global mean temperature anomalies occasionally change, since we base them on the best currently available data; those do change with time as records from more stations are digitized and made available, as corrections to earlier incorrect reports are obtained, as metadata are used to account for changes in reports that have nothing to do with climate change but were caused by changes in instrumentations, reporting procedure, location of the measuring instrument etc. Finally, those estimates may change slightly as the time series get longer, which allows us to assess better how to combine records from different stations and how to bridge spatial or temporal data gaps. Sometimes those changes result in increasing trends, sometimes trends are decreased. It seems that the sources you consulted cherry-picked the former instances.
A major change that decreased the trend happened when we included ocean temperatures in addition to land based sources only, and a slight decrease was caused when we adjusted the data for urban effects. All other changes had only minor effects on the global means.
Any major changes/adjustments have always been documented on the web and in the scientific literature by the people who made them (mostly NOAA/NCDC) and so did we whenever we adopted those changes, so none of the graphs you refer to is news to us.

Maybe he isn’t aware of what his team is doing to destroy the global temperature record, but his claims don’t hold up to any scrutiny. The animation below shows NASA changes to the global surface temperature record since 1981.
These are land-only temperatures – so the ocean excuse doesn’t work. The past is always getting colder, and the slope is always increasing. The trend from 1890 to 1978 has increased by 40% since Hansen 1981.

GISS also overwrites their data as they alter it, and they try to block web crawlers to make it difficult to document their tampering.
The next graph shows the total alterations to the NASA global surface temperature record since 1981.
Perhaps he isn’t aware of what his group at GISS is doing to destroy the integrity of the surface temperature record. His comments above would seem to indicate that.
