What Is The Second Derivative?

The second derivative of a distance-time plot is an indication of acceleration.

If the second derivative is positive, the graph curves upwards and is an indication of acceleration. This would be like looking at a photo of Raquel Welch.

If the second derivative is negative, the graph curves downwards and is an indication of deceleration. Think of looking at a photo of Hillary Clinton.

Melting Season Almost Over – Arctic Alarmism Is Dead

There are credible scientists who are now predicting an ice-free (summer) arctic by as early as 2013. The implications are mind boggling. The impact on wildlife, humans and the rest of the world’s weather patterns is impossible to predict for specific areas and to exact detail.

Putting Things In Perspective

I am constantly called a right-wing extremist, because my politics are nearly identical to the politics of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin.

That gives a good feel for who has taken over the US government.

Mark’s Greenland Scam

We are told by experts that Greenland is melting down. This is a spectacular lie, on a par with any of the worst being told by the climate scamsters.

Eighty percent of Greenland’s ice sheet has gained mass over the past year, and the average ice gain is 180 mm.

The next graph is the weighted pixel count, showing a huge annual increase in the surface mass budget of Greenland.

But it is worst than it seems. In a normal year, Greenland gains even more ice on the surface – 400 GT/year.

This of course does not include glacial discharge. If the net balance including glacial discharge did happen to be negative, that would be an indication of a temporary flow disequilibrium rather than melting. All of the snow which falls on the surface has to eventually return to the sea. The net surface change in mass is strongly positive, which means Greenland is not melting down – quite the opposite.

We have watched the Greenland Summit Camp get buried in snow year after year, and have to be constantly dug out and raised.

In 1942, this aircraft went down over Greenland, and was dug out of 79 meters of ice fifty years later. The ice accumulated 1.6 meters per year.

Goddard’s Laws Of Sea Level

  1. You only need one tide gauge to detect a change in the rate of actual sea level rise
  2. A change in the rate of actual sea level rise would affect all tide gauges equally

The IPCC claim that sea level rise has accelerated since 1992 meets neither of these criteria, and is pure unadulterated bullshit (as Penn and Teller would say.)

Five Years After The Last Multi-Year Ice Disappeared …

It has been five years since Canada’s leading ice expert announced that multi-year ice is a thing of the past.

The multiyear ice covering the Arctic Ocean has effectively vanished, a startling development that will make it easier to open up polar shipping routes, an Arctic expert said on Thursday.

Vast sheets of impenetrable multiyear ice, which can reach up to 80 meters (260 feet) thick, have for centuries blocked the path of ships seeking a quick short cut through the fabled Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They also ruled out the idea of sailing across the top of the world.

But David Barber, Canada’s Research Chair in Arctic System Science at the University of Manitoba, said the ice was melting at an extraordinarily fast rate.
