The typhoon was one of the worst ever recorded, the velocity of the wind being from 65 to 70 metres a second (about 150 m.p.h.), and nearly 100 metres a second (200 m.p.h.) on the summit of .Mount Fujiyama, where the observatory’s instruments were placed out of commission.

The latest confirmed death count is 168,000, but Dacca news media reported “unofficial but confirmed figures” putting the toll at more than one million.

The reports said 300,000 died in Noakhali in Patuakhali district, 200,000 on Bohla Island, 110,000 on Hatia Island and 100,000 more on another 200 islands.

Bhola Island and Patuakhali between them are half the area of about 2,500 square miles affected and have more than half the affected population of 2.2 million.

The graph below shows GISS US temperatures five year mean. At first glance, it looks like the US is really heating up.

Now compare that to the actual GHCN thermometer data which the graph is based on. They look nothing alike. The 1930s were much hotter.

The next graph overlays the published GISS temperature (red) on the thermometer data (blue) normalized to 2003. You can see that they have massively cooled the past relative to the present – to create the appearance of non-existent warming.

Next, let’s compare the actual data to what GISS published in 1999, before they started their most serious tampering.

The next graph overlays the thermometer data (blue) on the 1999 GISS graph. You can see that there was much less tampering going on at that time.

The next graph is a bonus, which overlays the thermometer data (blue) on the National Academy of Sciences 1975 Northern Hemisphere graph. The correlation is pretty decent.

GISS US temperature graphs are a complete fraud, and Hansen knows it. He wrote this in 1999.

The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

Respecting the typhoon that passed over the Philippines on October 22, the following meagre particulars are supplied by the Hong Kong daily press :—” The 20th October, 1882, will be chronicled in the annals of Manila as a dia triste. Observatory says lowest barometer at 11.40 a. m., 727.60 ; highest velocity wind registered, 144.4 miles an hour. Unable to measure greatest velocity of typhoon as anemometer damaged. In Ermita only house standing is Macleod’s. No house standing between Divisoria and Dulambayan. Sampaloc unroofed. Greatest typhoon since 1831. Wind so strong, lightning rods two yards long were bent double. Pieces of iron roofing so heavy that six or eight men could not lift them blown some distance and rolled like cigars. Damage much greater than great earthquake of 1880.
