Dr. James E. Hansen of the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Institute for Space Studies said research by his institute showed that because of the “greenhouse effect” that results when gases prevent heat from escaping the earth’s atmosphere, global temperatures would rise early in the next century to “well above any level experienced in the past 100,000 years.”

Average global temperatures would rise by one-half a degree to one degree Fahrenheit from 1990 to 2000 if current trends are unchanged, according to Hansen’s findings. Hansen said the global temperature would rise by another 2 to 4 degrees in the following decade.

President Obama does not carry a gun, yet he says he is really good at killing people.

According to the new book “Double Down,” in which journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann chronicle the 2012 presidential election, President Barack Obama told his aides that he’s “really good at killing people” while discussing drone strikes. Peter Hamby of the Washington Post reported the moment in his review of the book.

This is confusing to me, because the press says that you can’t kill someone without a gun.

Doug MacAyeal, a geophysicist at the University of Chicago, has been developing a computer model to predict what might happen in the south polar region as a result of an increasing greenhouse effect, and expects to be able to make some accurate predictions on sea-level rise this summer But it is possible, he says now, that Antarctic warming could be as much as 12 degrees F in the Antarctic 60 years from now. And that, he projects, would be enough to detach the West Antarctic sheet, with a resulting water-level rise of 20 feet.

Let’s hope not. The far more conservative estimates of sea-level rise that most authorities project—say approximately five to seven feet

US summer temperatures have declined over the last 80 years.

The US. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that a six-foot sea-level rise would destroy as much as 80 percent of this country’s coastal wetlands.

Sea level has risen 120 metres over the last 20,000 years. All the wetlands must be at the bottom of the sea – along with the missing heat.

If by 2050 the Florida Keys “will no longer exist,” in the words of Elton J, Gissen-danner, past executive director of the Florida Department of Natural Resources, then around the world entire nations may face major disruption or even near or total extinction.

“The irony,” says Schneider, “is that this possibly unconnected event has brought us to the right level of consciousness about the problem, a level that should have been reached about fifteen years ago. Venus lies at the other end of the gamut. Its atmosphere, 97 percent carbon dioxide, is very thick. The pressure at the Venusian surface is 90 times Earth’s. As a result, Venus has been called a ‘”runaway greenhouse,” If Mars is like a deep freezer, Venus basks in the temperature of a self-cleaning oven, about 900 degrees F— too hot for life.

Schneider demonstrates that Venus is hot because of its very thick atmosphere, and not because of its atmospheric chemistry, and then concludes that the heat must be due to its atmospheric chemistry.

Obama says he doesn’t have time to talk to flat earther’s, which includes Tony Abbott and John Howard. Regardless, he really has no reason to go down under anymore.

Our friends from Real Climate and elsewhere have insisted that Scenario B was their “business as usual” scenario. But this 1989 Popular Science quotes Hansen and colleagues as saying it was Scenario A.
