While doing research 12 or 13 years ago, I met Jim Hansen, the scientist who in 1988 predicted the greenhouse effect before Congress. I went over to the window with him and looked out on Broadway in New York City and said, “If what you’re saying about the greenhouse effect is true, is anything going to look different down there in 20 years?” He looked for a while and was quiet and didn’t say anything for a couple seconds. Then he said, “Well, there will be more traffic.” I, of course, didn’t think he heard the question right. Then he explained, “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. And the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change.” Then he said, “There will be more police cars.” Why? “Well, you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up.”

And so far, over the last 10 years, we’ve had 10 of the hottest years on record.

Didn’t he also say that restaurants would have signs in their windows that read, “Water by request only.”

Under the greenhouse effect, extreme weather increases. Depending on where you are in terms of the hydrological cycle, you get more of whatever you’re prone to get. New York can get droughts, the droughts can get more severe and you’ll have signs in restaurants saying “Water by request only.”

When did he say this will happen?

Within 20 or 30 years. And remember we had this conversation in 1988 or 1989.

Does he still believe these things?

Yes, he still believes everything. I talked to him a few months ago and he said he wouldn’t change anything that he said then.

This week, after reviewing his own new data, NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally said: “At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions.”

National Geographic used to be an informative magazine, back in the days when they stuck with showing pictures of topless Tahitian women.

NSIDC announced on July 25 that the Arctic cyclone was going to make the ice disappear.

Back when the sea was thick and lasted for years, cyclones tended to spread the ice out and actually increase its extent, said Julienne Stroeve of the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo. Now, when ice gets spread out, it simply breaks up and disappears.

“As our ice cover has thinned, some of our old rules are changing,” said Stroeve.

The ice had a different idea though, and did the exact opposite of what NSIDC said it was doing.

Arctic sea ice is almost back into the 1979-2000 normal range, and NSIDC insists that it is on track to disappear soon.

The minimum ice extent was the sixth lowest* in the satellite record, and reinforces the long-term downward trend in Arctic ice extent.

Mark “Death Spiral” Serreze tells us that the record 70% YOY growth in Arctic sea ice to a nine year September high, proves that it is disappearing.

Like the IPCC, NSIDC apparently sees contrary data as reinforcing their funding-ready theory.

? I vote Democrat because I believe a moment of silent prayer at the beginning of the school day constitutes government indoctrination and an intrusion on parental authority ….. but sex education, condom distribution and multiculturalism are all values-neutral.
? I vote Democrat because I agonize over threats to the natural environment from CO2, acid rain and toxic waste ….. but I am totally oblivious of the threats to our social environment from pornography, promiscuity and family dissolution.
? I vote Democrat because I believe lazy, uneducated stoners should have just as big a say in running our country as entrepreneurs who risk everything and work 70 hours per week. 
? I vote Democrat because I don’t like guns ….. so no one else should be allowed to own one.
? I vote Democrat because I see absolutely no correlation between welfare and the rise of illegitimacy.
? I vote Democrat because I see absolutely no correlation between judicial leniency and surging crime rates.
? I vote Democrat because I believe marriage is obsolete, except for homosexuals.
? I vote Democrat because I think AIDS is spread by insufficient funding.
? I vote Democrat because I think “fairness” is far more important than freedom.
? I vote Democrat because I think an “equal outcome” is far more important than equal opportunity.
And lastly, I vote Democrat because I’m convinced that government programs are the solution to the human condition, NOT freedom

We have seen quite a bit of impressive climate data fraud from government agencies, and one of my personal favorites is NOAA’s  Climate Extremes Indicator – which shows 2012 as being the most extreme year in US history when tropical cyclones are ignored.

This might make a person scratch his/her head, because other than Sandy (which isn’t included in the index) 2012 had very little extreme weather in the US. The week before Sandy, Bill McKibben was complaining about the record lack of storms in 2012.

So where did the most extreme numeric come from? The winter and spring had a lot of very mild temperatures, which allowed people to play golf weeks earlier than normal. NOAA classifies lovely spring weather as extreme. And to make matters worse, they double counted all the mild days as mild afternoons and mild nights – as Paul Homewood pointed out.

The index is a piece of completely worthless junk, but a centerpiece for the Ministry of Truth. Last year probably didn’t rank in the top 10 for extreme weather in the US.

I bravely faced three great dangers this afternoon.

1. I went to a gun show in Loveland, in a building full of guns which could have gone crazy and started shooting people at any time. Fortunately none of the guns were in a mood to massacre people today – not even the super-evil black ones with pistol grips that give Piers Morgan nightmares.
2. Then I went for a bike ride in the foothills above the CSU football game. On my way back I encountered on a curve a jogger with an impressive pair of bouncing bazungas – who distracted me for a second and almost caused me to ride off into a ditch.
3. And finally, I took the dogs out for a hike and was nearly eaten alive by massive swarms of mosquitoes in Pineridge Natural Area. (I actually wan’t quite so brave this time and took off running as fast as I could.)

Life was better before evil chemical pesticides caused mankind to be separated from the natural world. Just ask any greenie-tiny-weenie.
