The Kettle Falls man shot by park rangers at a campground over the weekend had been standing alongside his 9-year-old son when the bullet tore into his torso, family members say.

A 14-year-old girl has been abducted by armed men who broke into her home in Atlanta.
Two men apparently entered the house through a back door around 2.15am on Tuesday and snatched Ayvani Hope Perez.
Officer Phong Nguyen said the two men had demanded money and jewellery from Ayvani’s mother, who was at home with Ayvani and her teenage son, during the break-in.
When she said she did not have any, they kidnapped Ayvani.
One of the men shot and killed the family dog because it started barking, Officer Nguyen added.

Democrats win House, promise new direction
POSTED: 6:05 p.m. EST, November 8, 2006(CNN) — Democrats promised Wednesday to lead the country in a new direction after winning control of the House for the first time in 12 years in midterm elections.
By early Wednesday, Democrats had picked up at least 29 seats; they needed 15 to capture a majority in the House. Two Democratic seats in Georgia that were targeted by Republicans remained too close to call.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-California, is now poised to become the first female speaker of the House.
Pelosi promised to lead the nation in a new direction “in partnership, not in partisanship.”
