1. There’s more ice in Antarctica than ever.
The past few years have seen an expansion of Antarctica’s coastal ice sheets – a byproduct, ironically, of climate change, which has brought increased snow and rainfall to the continent. Meanwhile, Antarctica’s inland ice sheets are melting at an alarming rate – 1,350 billion tons of ice disappeared into the ocean between 1992 and 2011. And that rate is increasing, fueling global rises in sea level.

Increased snow and rain is causing sea ice to spread? What kind of moron would think up such idiocy? Sea ice is formed when cold air over the water extracts enough heat to cause the seawater to freeze. Antarctic sea ice has spread because air temperatures have been getting colder.
And it takes a double moron to believe that Antarctica is below freezing at warmer lower latitudes and altitudes (edge of the sea ice) while melting in the colder interior at higher latitudes and altitudes. Not to mention the fact that sea ice freezes at a lower temperature than glacial ice.
The rumors about Antarctica losing mass are from some fatally flawed gravity studies from the University of Texas a few years ago, done by people who were too stupid to know that glacial rebound causes the bedrock below the glaciers to change elevation. Their legacy of junk science continues to grow and expand.
Much of the popular hysteria about climate is due to government officials exaggerating the historical nature of the event. For example, every time there is a fire in Colorado, the governor tells the press that it is the most destructive fire in Colorado’s history. This misinformation gets spread by CNN and becomes part of the permanent McKibben/Masters/Romm legend – and is repeated by the press thousands of times, despite the fact that there is no truth to it.
It happened again yesterday in Longmont. The USGS called the flood a 100 year event.
Longstanding rainfall records were swept away in what an official with the United States Geological Survey late Thursday confirmed was for Boulder a 100-year flood — although that agency no longer uses that term.

But the city of Longmont wasn’t satisfied with that, so they bumped it up to a 500 year event.

NOAA has inflated it from a 100 year flood, to biblical
BOULDER, Colo. — Massive flash flooding along Colorado’s picturesque Front Range mountains, triggered by what the National Weather Service termed “biblical rainfall amounts,’‘ killed at least three people, cut off small towns and forced countless residents to scramble for high ground.

It is a big flood, in a region where the terrain was formed by big floods. In 1921, a fire and flood in Pueblo, Colorado killed 1,200 people.
In 1898, a fire burned up the northwest quadrant of the state.
The previous record for river depth in Fort Collins was 10.5 feet. It went over 14 feet early this morning.

This was one of the more popular bike trails taken earlier at about 10 feet depth.
So far this year there have been 1,651 record daily minimum temperatures recorded at all 862 US HCN stations continuously active since 1930, compared to 1,394 record maximums.
Note the outlier year of 1993, which was very cool due to the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, and the global cooling years of the 1960s and 1970s.

Suppose that there 25,000 places on earth, and each one keeps records for four things – hottest temperature, coldest temperature, most rain and most snow.
That is a total of 100,000 all-time records. Now let’s say that the average length of time for the record keeping has been 100 years, so the odds of any individual record being broken this year are 100:1.
So multiplying 100,000 records by the odds (1/100) we would expect 1,000 all time records to be broken this year, or three per day.
This gives Bill McKibben three things to get hysterical about every day – even in a completely stable climate.
But these are for all-time station records. For daily station records (ex. hottest July 7 in St. Louis) the number is 1,000 new records per day!
