On March 15 we had a grass fire west of Fort Collins, which was caused by a combination of a whacked out government scientist, and Chinook winds after several weeks of cold weather – which had inhibited new grass growth. The usual nutcases got hysterical over the fire and declared the end of the world.
I took the picture below earlier this afternoon, before today’s deluge of rain. The burn area is now emerald green. Fire returns nutrients to the soil, and is an essential part of the ecosystem.
Does NOAA management actually believe that jacking up temperatures and drought status will convince people that they are not cold and wet?

If the current trend continues, the US will approach absolute zero by the end of the century. This is appropriate, because we have a bunch of zeroes running the country.
The US drought monitor comes out on Thursday. I always look forward to seeing that we are in a severe drought here in Fort Collins. It makes me feel dry, after the unprecedented amounts of cold, snow and rain we have had this spring.

No living species or plants can survive in temperatures and droughts on this planet that exceed 130-150 degrees or more. Temperatures have risen to 115 degrees in the last few summers in the U.S. and globally. This is not hyperbole. It’s not even a matter of coping with a “new normal”: we’re talking existential survival. The Arctic ice is rapidly melting and will soon vanish within the next two summers.
