Dodging The Bullet

Almost the entire US has been below normal temperatures this year.

This is good news for us in Colorado because we normally have leaves on the trees by now, – which would be a catastrophe with 18 inches of snow on the way.

Shock News : Colorado Pine Trees Can’t Exist Without Fire

During his State of The Union address, President Obama promised to end forest fires in Colorado.

Lodgepole Pine

The Pinus contorta as a species is a very dependent on fire as a mode of replacing itself. The bark of the lodgepole pine is fairly thin, minimizing the defense the tree has to fire. The stands are so densely populated that the trees self thin, or out compete, each other leaving dead trees in the stand. These dead trees become a dry ladder fuel to accelerate the fire to the crown of the tree. When the fire reaches the crowns of the trees, it can jump from tree to tree and becomes relatively unstoppable. These stand-replacing fires open the cones, releasing the seeds, and are what most species of lodgepole pine rely on to be able to regenerate.

Being An Alarmist Means Not Understanding Nature

Climate alarmism is based on ignorance and dishonesty.

Check out N.M.’s burn scar to see crisp evidence of climate change

By Scott Shuker / Santa Fe resident on Sun, Apr 7, 2013

Along with 35 people from Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos, from teenagers to retirees, I joined New Energy Economy’s Las Conchas hike last Saturday, a stark and informative experience that displayed the realities of climate change on New Mexico’s forests.

We hiked the eastern rim of the Valles Caldera and viewed the now dead forest patch and considered the affect Las Conchas had on this beautiful wilderness area and what it portends for the future.

Santa Fe is famous for spectacular Aspen groves, which formed after giant fires during the 1890s. Many species like Aspen depend on forest fires for their existence.

A few years after a fire, the Aspen trees move in and the scenery becomes much more spectacular.

Texas Moving To Protect Their Schoolchildren

Some states are choosing to protect their children, by providing powerful deterrents to criminals.

Hundreds of Texas educators take free concealed handgun class

The proposal calls for 16 hours of training to instruct teachers how to first conceal children during an attack, and then return fire. It would apply to charter schools as well as public schools that don’t already employ armed guards.

Several proposals to extend the reach of guns in schools are moving through the Legislature, which opened its biannual session a month after 20 schoolchildren were killed in a mass shooting in Connecticut.

The National Rifle Association has called for an armed guard in every school in America.

Time For A Team Huddle

Obama is pushing electric cars because he says electricity is clean, and electric cars are marketed as being “emissions free.
