Marcott made a new hockey stick, by putting a low pass filter on a grossly inadequate data set, and then switched measurement systems in mid-stream and put a high pass filter on another grossly inadequate data set.
He did so many things wrong, that he would probably get tossed out of any engineering school for fraud.
But he did one thing right – produced utter garbage which backed the scientific and political orthodoxy.
The first three months of 2012 were the mildest on record in the US (slightly warmer than 1921) and so far in 2013 those same months have been among the coldest on record.
There has been no trend in January-March temperatures in the US over the last 90 years.
The 2013 numbers will come up some as the month progresses, but as it stands now the first three months of 2013 are ranked among the ten coldest.

PIOMAS is a favorite tool of alarmists – and is complete garbage.
The graph below shows PIOMAS average ice thickness, calculated by dividing their modeled ice volume by Cryosphere Today ice area.
There is a fatal error with this data. Note how the ice used to gain more than a metre in thickness over the winter, but now it gains less than half that much.
It should be the other way around. With less thick ice cover now, the warmer water below is not as well insulated from the cold air above. This means that average ice thickness should increase more now during a winter than it did 30 years ago. Thick ice inhibits new ice formation, and thin ice facilitates it.
Temperatures have been running -35C in the Arctic this winter, and PIOMAS claims that less than half a metre of new ice has formed. That is just plain stupid. At those temperatures, half a metre of new ice would form in less than two weeks.
The US Navy shows that all of the ice in the Arctic Basin is thicker than PIOMAS average ice thickness, most of it much thicker.

Methane released in the atmosphere contributes much more to climate change than CO2.
Methane makes up less than 0.000002 mole fraction of the atmosphere. If everyone in Camp Nou last night were a molecule of the atmosphere, odds are that none of them would be methane.
All of the minimal absorption bands of methane are completely overlapped by water vapor. Methane has almost no effect on the Earth’s radiative energy balance. Friedman is an idiot. He has no idea what he is talking about.
