Undertsanding The Difference Between Weather Vs. Climate

Current Climate Summary Maps – Powered by ACIS – High Plains Regional Climate Center

The northeastern US was 2-6 degrees above normal last November. This was a climate phenomenon due to missing Arctic ice and is representative of the whole planet.

The northeastern US is 2-6 degrees below normal this November. This is also due to missing Arctic ice, but is just weather and represents only a tiny percentage of the planet.

Why Two Degrees?

We are blessed to have a person in the White House who can control the seas and the weather, but why stop at two degrees?

Obama has devoted his life to redistributional justice. Why not equalize temperatures, rainfall and storms, and make sure that rich white men get their fair share of droughts and Dengue Fever.  That would be meteorological justice.

He could even equalize rounds of golf.

Obama Being Pressed To Control The Earth’s Thermostat

Barack Obama is being pressed for proof of his intent to act on climate change ahead of next week’s United Nations global warming summit in Doha.

The proof might boil down to just two words: two degrees. An early statement at Doha that America remains committed to the global goal of limiting warming to 2C above pre-industrial levels would be a clear sign.

Change Of Plans

I was planning on making a trip to west London in February to watch some EPL and Champions League football, but it looks like I will have to go to north London instead.

Roberto di Matteo learned this week why it is not necessarily a good idea to work for a team owned by a flaky Russian mafioso. Chelsea is only one point below Manchester United (thanks to Fergie’s 12th man) and there was no sane reason to get rid of the manager. They need a new striker and some fullbacks, not a new manager.

Dirty Weather In 1953

If we had weather this bad in 2012, climate scientists would see it as 97% proof of the need for taxation and sacrifice of personal freedom.

Effective Government Funded Propaganda

I have flown over Greenland about 100 times in the last 15 years. Return flights from Europe to the western US fly over southern Greenland in mid-afternoon, so you frequently get a good view of the ice sheet. I always make sure that I have a good view, because it is an amazing sight to see mountains buried under snow.

A few years ago my mother commented “It must look a lot different than it did in the 1990s” based on what she hears on NPR. I responded – “no it looks exactly the same. I can’t see any difference at all.

Times Atlas says that 15% of the ice has melted, and NASA says that 97% of the ice melted this summer.
