‘Follow the Islamic way to save the world,’ Prince Charles urges

Prince Charles yesterday urged the world to follow Islamic ‘spiritual principles’ in order to protect the environment.

In an hour-long speech, the heir to the throne argued that man’s destruction of the world was contrary to the scriptures of all religions – but particularly those of Islam.

He said the current ‘division’ between man and nature had been caused not just by industrialisation, but also by our attitude to the environment – which goes against the grain of ‘sacred traditions’….

He added: ‘The inconvenient truth is that we share this planet with the rest of creation for a very good reason – and that is, we cannot exist on our own without the intricately balanced web of life around us.

‘Islam has always taught this and to ignore that lesson is to default on our contract with creation.’

We are being bombarded with claims that 2012 is a record fire year, and that fires are getting worse. I made a post yesterday pointing out that YTD 2012 has had the fewest number of fires in the 10 year long NIFC database, and that there were many more, and much larger fires in the past.

So a few people start arguing over whether or not 2012 is really a record low.

Who cares? The point is that 2012 isn’t anywhere near a record high. Some people need to step up their game. Arguing over the number of angels on the head of a pin is mindless.

Sea ice area around Antarctica increased by more than 1,400 Manhattans overnight, and set another daily record. It was the third highest area ever recorded at either pole, and is only 300 Manhattans away from breaking the all-time record for any day of the year.

I took a tour of the New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins the other day. I like their Fat Tire beer, but most of their beers taste like they have Drano in them – which they describe as being a “hoppy taste.”

They kept constantly reminding us about their concern for the climate, which was  hysterical given that their product is purposely designed to generate as much CO2 as possible.

The parking lot is organized so that the higher mileage your vehicle, the closer you can park to the door. At the end of the tour they distribute a newspaper called the Matterhorn, which is devoted to listing climate apocalypses.

I went out last night and ordered a Corona instead of a Fat Tire.

Antarctic ice area was poised to break the all time record for either pole today, but UIUC has not updated their table to day 2012.7316. They have however updated their Arctic table to day 2012.7316.

Why the delay? I can imagine that there are some interesting E-mails flying around at climate HQ right now.

Without fossil fuels and other petroleum based products, humans would still be living in mud shacks and dying at age 25.
