Perhaps 2012 will turn out to be worse than 1886, when the US was hit by seven hurricanes – including two major hurricanes.

About time we had a real summer. Unfortunately, today was the last really warm day in the forecast.

Brace yourself for more: 2012 has seen more days reaching 90 degrees or warmer in Fort Collins than any other year on record.

As of Monday, Fort Collins had 55 days 90 degrees or hotter, shattering the record for enduring heat by an unprecedented 10 days, according to the Colorado Climate Center’s monthly weather data report compiled by researcher Wendy Ryan.

The previous record of 45 days 90 degrees and hotter was set in 1960.

Despite the fact that the heat wouldn’t go away, no high temperature records were broken, but two were tied: 97 degrees on Aug. 6 set in 1889 and 95 degrees on Aug. 28, a record set in 1899.

I spent a couple hours Sunday evening at a friend’s house (the 82 year old woman pictured above next to my Jeep.) She is a life-long Republican and woman of great sense.

Four years ago a close friend of hers (a lifelong Democrat) was working back stage at the Democratic party Convention in Denver, and over heard Michelle blurt out f***ing white people. Needless to say, she did not vote for Obama.
