Press Loses Interest In Tornadoes

Last year, tornadoes were proof of global warming. This year they aren’t important.

According to data from the Storm Prediction Center, the count of preliminary tornado reports during May — 139 — was much below the 1991-2010 average of 276. May is typically the most active tornado month during the year. This marks the slowest May, in terms of the number of tornadoes since 2005, when 124 tornadoes were confirmed. Once the final tornado count is confirmed, it is likely the May 2012 count will be revised lower.

Creepy Wannabe Dictator At Work

Obama is turning the US into a lawless banana republic, using taxpayer funds as a campaign tool.

Obama Phone

Now check out this part from the same website :

What is the Obama Phone?

The term “the Obama Phone” has been all around since the day Barack Obama became the president of the United States of America. Many people think that Obama is giving free cellphones to the poor in order to redistribute the wealth of rich people. Since then two groups are mudslinging at each other.  It’s true that government provides free cellphones to the poor and disabled people.

But the Obama part is not true as Obama didn’t initiate this program. It’s on the run since the administration of Reagan.  This program has two parts: one is called the ‘Link-Up’ which provided free landline connection to the poor and the other is called the ‘Lifeline’ which provides waiver on telephone bills. These two programs are simply called ‘Lifeline’ when lumped together.

Obama splatters his name every fourth word on the website (which also bears his name) then admits that the Obama part is not true. He is running a campaign program using taxpayer money, lying about it, and taking credit for Reagan’s accomplishments.

When you elect a third world banana republic dictator, that is exactly what you get.

The Latest Attempt To Rewrite History

There have been several comments on this blog recently claiming that the consensus agreed with plate tectonics, but disagreed with continental drift.

This is revisionist nonsense, as I will explain below the offending comment.

dhogaza says:

In the case of continental drift, it took almost 70 years to accept the evidence, and allow the science to proceed.

The continental drift hypothesis – continents moving across the sea floor like ships upon the sea – was wrong, and rightly rejected (no one rejected the obvious fact that continents fit together like a jigsaw puzzle). As a physical mechanism to explain the fact that the continents do fit together, it was simply impossible and scientists at the time for the most part recognized that it was impossible. Wegener was unable to answer the “how do they move?” response to his hypothesis.

Despite this, there was actually fairly considerable acceptance, especially in Europe, that the coincidences of geographical fit, various fits of rock types and fossils, meant that some unknown mechanism had caused the continents to move, emphasis on the “unknown”. But science likes explanations, and it’s understandable that continental drift didn’t gain widespread acceptance given that its proponents couldn’t propose a physically possible mechanism for it.

Plate tectonics is not continental drift. And it came about due to the discovery of sea floor spreading, which came about as a result of improved mapping of the ocean floors using modern technology, in the 1950s. Once a reasonable mechanism was discovered and the theory of plate tectonics developed, acceptance was relatively rapid.

Nonsense. My physical geology professor at ASU was Dr. Robert Dietz – who discovered sea floor spreading.

He also wrote an article in 1983 titled “In Defense of Drift” – because the consensus was still fighting against Wegener 70 years later.

Dietz, Robert S. (Nov.-Dec. 1983). “In Defense of Drift”. The Sciences 23: 26.

There never was a rift between plate tectonics and continental drift. Continental drift was a description of the motion, and plate tectonics was the underlying mechanism. Alarmists are trying to rewrite this history to prove that most scientists aren’t actually as stupid as they pretend to be.

At the time of his death, Wegener was ridiculed  and his theory was scorned.  Today, it is renowned as an essential element of the unifying theory of earth science: plate tectonics.

Is Colorado Burning?

I posted the map below on June 8 showing how Fort Collins had narrowly missed heavy rain. In the preceding days we had been under repeated tornado watches. Areas to the north and south received as much as eight inches of rain during the previous week, but Fort Collins got none.

No one realized at that time that lightning had started a fire inside that red circle. The next day, the winds picked up and the fire grew very quickly.

The fire was the result of a weird weather pattern in a tiny area of Colorado. So of course it is being blamed on global warming.

National Research Council Lying About Sea Level

Global warming may push sea levels as much as a foot higher in California in the next two decades, threatening airports, freeways, ports and houses, according to a report examining risks along the U.S. West Coast.

Increases are forecast to be greatest south of Cape Mendocino, with levels rising 1.5 inches to 12 inches (4 to 30 centimeters) by 2030 and as much as two feet by 2050, according to a report today by the National Research Council. In Oregon and Washington, increases may be more modest, because land also is rising

Global Warming Seen Lifting California Sea Level a Foot – Bloomberg

Satellites show no sea level rise off the coast of California since they started taking measurements twenty years ago. Satellite measurements are unaffected by changes in the height of the land surface, because they are measured relative to the satellite’s orbit rather than the coastline.

The Price Of Pretending That You Care About An Imaginary Problem

Soros makes his money by killing off national economies, which is why he has put a lot of effort into creating an army of green useful idiots.

EDF: Price rise for low-carbon electricity on the way

The boss of the UK’s largest electricity generator and distributor has warned of imminent electricity price rises across Europe, due to the perceived demands of moving towards a low-carbon economy. Asked how that transition could be paid for, Vincent de Rivaz, chief executive of EDF Energy, told a meeting in the European Parliament on 19 June that there was “an urgent need for new capacity” in many countries, especially in Britain.

“It would be a mockery to deny that the price will go up,” he continued. “It is impossible to invest £110 billion [€134 billion] in electricity generation with no impact on prices in the short term.”

The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change said that up to £110 billion would need to be invested in power generation and transmission by 2020 when it unveiled its Electricity Market Reform in May.

Current GISS US temperature data
1999 version of GISS US temperature data

The graph above uses uncorrupted GISS data through 1999, and subsequent years use corrupted GISS data, minus the 1999 “adjustment” of +0.355. This is conservative, because the current GISS upwards adjustment is probably larger than that. GISS doesn’t publish that information and does not provide disclaimers with their graphs that the real thermometers actually show a cooling trend for the last 80 years.

The bottom line is that according to the actual measured thermometer readings, the three hottest years in US history all occurred before 1940. Current US temperatures are close to the post-1880 average.

Credible Evidence Arises That University Standards Have Dropped To Zero

Credible evidence of climate change arises
By Robert Oglesby and Donald Wuebbles

Oglesby is a professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Wuebbles is the Harry E. Preble Endowed Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois.

It’s been a hot start in 2012. Over Memorial Day weekend, high-temperature records were set in 16 states, including every state that’s home to a Big Ten school. Omaha’s high temperature hit 94 degrees — the hottest May 27 temperature in more than 100 years of record-keeping. Chicago, Des Moines, Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Madison, Wis., and Pittsburgh all hit record highs that weekend.

Credible evidence of climate change arises – Omaha.com

The professors seem to be endowed with confirmation bias, ignorance and failing grade school math skills.

The US has more than 1,000 temperature stations, and the length of the temperature database averages about 100 years. On any given day, the odds of breaking a high temperature record at any station are 100 to 1.  With 1,000 stations and a three day weekend, we would expect to have about 30 high temperature records set in the US. This is the most basic statistics and it is incredible that the professors don’t understand it.

But it gets worse. Their temperature data is garbage. On Memorial Day Weekend 1934, the temperature in Iowa was 111 degrees. Almost 20 degrees hotter than this year.

May 30, 1934: What would become one of the hottest summers on record in Iowa began to intensify as a heat wave in the last three days of May resulted in nearly every location in the state exceeding 100 F on at least one of those three days. The heat wave peaked on the 30th when the temperature soared to as high as 111 F near Inwood which is the highest temperature ever recorded in Iowa in May. Other high temperatures on the 30th included 110 F at Boone, 109 F at Logan and Spencer, 108 F at Le Mars, and 107 F at Storm Lake. Des Moines and Sioux City also set their respective May records as both reached a high of 105 F. Amazingly this extremely hot weather came only a few days after unseasonably cool temperatures in the 30s had been recorded across much of the state with frost on the 25th and 26th. In fact, at Boone the low temperature on the morning of the 25th was 30 F so the temperature at that location rose by 80 F in just five days. To put this into perspective, the largest temperature range ever recorded across the state of Iowa during the entire month of May is 88 degrees.

The professors’ statistical and historical knowledge is garbage, and yet they go to the press and claim that they have proved global warming.
