Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath…..

Why would any alarmist argue with NOAA, Phil Jones and James Hansen?

Every other sentence has something along the lines of “that was debunked here” or “that was discredited here” and then the usual smattering of words like hapless, incoherent, etc….

But what you won’t see is any discussion of the actual data or the concept being contested. The defense of their belief system invariably comes down to ad homs and appeals to authority – because most alarmists don’t know jack shit about anything. Their belief system comes down to – “humans are evil” – and beyond that any details aren’t important.

Most of the greenhouse effect of CO2 occurs from the first 30 ppm. The RRTM data above shows that going from 393 ppm to 560 ppm will increase the greenhouse effect by less than 0.25% in the tropics.

This data was generated from the model which Kevin Trenberth uses. What we see is the opposite of a tipping point. It is more like a napping point.

But it turns out that Taylor’s source is none other than hapless climate blogger Steven Goddard, who recently leveled incoherent and unsupported false accusations against James Hansen and NASA’s Gistemp record, as well as NOAA.  Goddard also relies on the same reviled NOAA data in his botched attempt to buttress his case that NASA is “hiding” an 80 year cooling trend. Never mind that the U.S. “lower 48? represents less than 2% of the Earth’s surface area in any event, or that past attempts to show U.S. cooling have been proven utterly wrong.

But Tale is a PhD thesis compared to Goddard’s recent outings. The first link above points to a Goddard post exposing some supposed “corruption” of the NASA Gistemp temperature record by “Hansen et al”. Goddard posts a blinking graph purporting to show substantial post-hoc changes in the 20th century U.S. temperature data. But there are no explanations of which data sets are being compared, so there is no way to even tell if they are equivalent, or represent different stages of processing.

A little bit desperate are we? The blink comparator shows Hansen’s 1999 version of US temperatures and his current version of US temperatures. The hydrophobic nitwit who wrote the article is admitting that the warming trend is the result of “processing”-  but isn’t bright enough to realize that he just stepped in a big pile.

Despite the lack of warming from 1950 to 1999, and the cooling since 1999, Hansen now shows a strong US warming trend since 1950.

In Hansen’s world of climate data tampering, you can add a negative number to zero – and get a positive number.

I did an RRTM run with H2O mole fraction 0.00025 (approximating the Arctic) and got the following results.

Removal of all CO2 decreases downwelling longwave radiation by 14%, and increasing CO2 by 10X increases downwelling longwave radiation by 7%

So new we have the Earth constrained. CO2 is responsible for 1.3% of the greenhouse effect in the tropics, 2.5% in the mid latitudes, and 14% in the polar regions. These numbers are a far cry from the bloated garbage which Gavin publishes.

The two images below have a 1% difference in absorption of visible light. Can you tell which is which?

RRTM shows that removal of all methane from the atmosphere would only decrease downwelling longwave radiation in the tropics by 0.1%. A 10X increase in methane would only increase the greenhouse effect by 0.3% in the tropics.

The catastrophic global warming scare is a scam. There is no scientific basis for it.
