Proof global warming isn’t making weather wackier?

Greenhouse gases do much more than just warm the planet, some environmentalists warn: They cause hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, droughts, and even extreme cold spells. Or do they?

Steven Goddard, who runs the skeptical climate blog Real Science and has a background in geology and computer science, has spent thousands of hours studying bad weather events around the world.

He found that the weather was wilder and weirder in the past than it is today.

Sea Level Junk Science In California

April 20, 2012

In the 20th century, the sea level rose on average 8 inches along California’s coastline, research by Climate Central and others shows.

Middle-of-the-road expectations are that it will rise 6 to 8 more inches by 2030, 12 inches by 2050 and 24 inches by 2070.

By 2100, it could be 3 to 5 feet higher, said Gary Griggs, director of the Institute of Marine Sciences at UC Santa Cruz.

As Earth Day nears, Calif. worries about rising sea levels | The Republic

Complete bollocks. UC Santa Cruz was famous in the 1970s for being the dope smoking capital of America. Nothing has changed. There has been no rise in sea level near Santa Cruz for over 30 years.

Wind Farms Cause 7C Warming Per Century

Alarmists claim that over the past century, CO2 has caused temperatures to warm by about 0.7 degrees. A new study shows that wind farms cause ten times as much warming as CO2.

Nature Climate Change (2012) doi:10.1038/nclimate1505

The wind industry in the United States has experienced a remarkably rapid expansion of capacity in recent years and this fast growth is expected to continue in the future1, 2, 3. While converting wind’s kinetic energy into electricity, wind turbines modify surface–atmosphere exchanges and the transfer of energy, momentum, mass and moisture within the atmosphere4, 5, 6. These changes, if spatially large enough, may have noticeable impacts on local to regional weather and climate. Here we present observational evidence for such impacts based on analyses of satellite data for the period of 2003–2011 over a region in west-central Texas, where four of the world’s largest wind farms are located7. Our results show a significant warming trend of up to 0.72?°C per decade, particularly at night-time, over wind farms relative to nearby non-wind-farm regions. We attribute this warming primarily to wind farms as its spatial pattern and magnitude couples very well with the geographic distribution of wind turbines

Cambridge University : Arctic Doomed

By Joe Romm on May 13, 2009

Peter Wadhams, head of the polar ocean physics group at the University of Cambridge, “believes the ice, which has been a permanent feature for at least 100,000 years, is now so thin that almost all of it will disappear in about a decade“:

“By 2013, we will see a much smaller area in summertime than now; and certainly by about 2020, I can imagine that only one area will remain in summer.” Although this bleak forecast is reinforced by the survey team’s data, Professor Wadham’s new assessment is based on analysis of nearly 40 years of sonar data gathered on Royal Navy submarines patrolling beneath the ice – the first, HMS Dreadnought, was in 1971…. Now Professor Wadhams, who has studied the Arctic for the past 40 years, says that there is “almost a breakdown” in the ice-cover…. Much of what is left of this ice accumulates in an area north of Greenland and Ellesmere Island in Canada, and may form what he calls “a last holdout, a kind of Alamo”.

Severe freeze threatens Vermont crop damage
Posted on April 27, 2012 by Matt Sutkoski

A very hard freeze is due tonight and Saturday night, which means there could be some serious orchard and other damage to agriculture in Vermont, especially in the Champlain Valley.

The National Weather Service in South Burlington has posted a freeze warning  for the Champlain Valley for temperatures expected to be in the low to mid 20s by morning.

Nature : Shipwrecking Hansen For 25 Years

“Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.”

– Albert Einstein

I just noticed this from 1988. In June, Hansen said that 1988 would “break all records” without an “improbable cooling”

As soon as Hansen opened his mouth,”remarkable cooling” occurred – and made him eat his words in December.
