Canadian Businesses Are Unprepared For Nice Weather

Author is worried that a longer growing season and less severe winters would be devastating to Canada’s economy.

OTTAWA — Canadian businesses are putting their bottom line and the country’s economic health at risk by neglecting to prepare for anticipated impacts of a changing climate, says a new report released Friday by a federal government-funded advisory panel.

The study, produced by the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, says that securities regulators also have a role to play in requiring better information from businesses for the public and investors.

“Despite guidance to the effect already issued by the Canadian Securities Administrators, climate change risk disclosure in financial filings is limited, at best,” said the report, entitled Facing the Elements: Business resilience in a changing climate. “Better enforcement of disclosure requirements is necessary, as are effective approaches for companies to demonstrate the value of climate change risk management and adaptation actions to investors.”

Quantifying The Death Spiral Of Climate Science

In 2008 Mark Serreze declared that the Arctic was in a death spiral

Arctic Ice in “Death Spiral,” Is Near Record Low

The Arctic Ocean’s sea ice has shrunk to its second smallest area on record, close to 2007’s record-shattering low, scientists report.

The ice is in a “death spiral” and may disappear in the summers within a couple of decades, according to Mark Serreze, an Arctic climate expert at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado.

Arctic Ice in “Death Spiral,” Is Near Record Low

In 2008, James Hansen declared that we were at a tipping point due to ice loss at both poles which was going to decimate life on the planet. (Note that Romm describes Hansen as being plural.)

Since the same date in 2008, Arctic ice has increased by more than 15%. Global sea ice area is fifth highest on record for the date. The breathtaking ignorance of the experts is indeed breathtaking.

The graph below shows April 1 to April 1, which was the peak day in 2012.

Global Sea Ice Fifth Highest On Record For The Date

The only recent years with more ice than 2012 were 1982, 1979, 2009 and 1987.

Climate experts tell us that global warming causes massive sea ice loss at both poles, in the form of a “death spiral.” They also say that skeptics are “breathtakingly ignorant” about sea ice.

July Getting Cooler In State College Pennsylvania

U.S. Historical Climatology Network

It is always good to look at the raw data before our friends have had a chance to tamper with it.

State College Pennsylvania has had seven July days over 100 degrees. Four were in the 1930s, and six were below 350 ppm CO2. As you can see in the graph above, the 1930s was by far the hottest decade, and the 1970 passage of the Clean Air Act had no effect.

Would we expect Harvard researchers to actually do some research before publishing?

Global Warming Hole Part 2

Some geniuses at Harvard have determined that cooling in Wyoming and West Texas from 1930 to 1990, was due to particulate emissions on the east coast.

“What we’ve shown is that particulate pollution over the eastern United States has delayed the warming that we would expect to see from increasing greenhouse gases,” said lead author Eric Leibensperger, who completed the study as a graduate student in applied physics at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

“For the sake of protecting human health and reducing acid rain, we’ve now cut the emissions that lead to particulate pollution,” he added, “but these cuts have caused the greenhouse warming in this region to ramp up to match the global trend.”

Before the Clean Air Act was passed in 1970, particulate pollution was prevalent in the air over the central and eastern states. Most of these particles in the atmosphere were made of sulfate, originating as sulfur emissions from coal-fired power plants. Compared to greenhouse gases, particulate pollution has a very short lifetime (about 1 week), so its distribution over the Earth is uneven.

Particulate pollution drives global warming gap

Besides the geographical nonsense, there are two other fatal problems with this theory.

  1. A rapid reduction in particulates over land in the 1970s would have produced a step function in temperature, not a drawn out 40 year rise. There is no physical mechanism which could explain such a lag.
  2. Almost all of the reported warming in the eastern US since 1960 is due to upwards adjustments by USHCN. Thermometers don’t show much of an upwards trend.

Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

Obama and Julia promised to heal the planet, and they did.

Temperatures have declined. Arctic sea ice has recovered, it has been the quietest four year period for hurricanes, and until the experts corrupted the data this month, sea level was going down.

Not to mention the extreme(ly nice) weather in March.

Category Four Hurricane During America’s Coldest Year

Hansen says that 1917 was the coldest year in American history, which explains the 130 MPH category four hurricane in late September.

It has been eight years since a category four hurricane hit the US, and seven years since any major hurricane hit the US – the longest period on record.

Twenty Percent Increase In Antarctic Ice Since 1979

Leading climate experts tell us that the ocean is heating around Antarctica and making the ice melt. By coincidence, April 20 was also National Marijuana Day.
