Shock News : Plants Moved A Few Feet

Researchers at the University of Granada Department of Botanic have participated in an international study that has confirmed that global warming is causing plants to migrate to higher altitudes. The study –recently published in Science– analyzed species diversity shifts in 66 summits of 17 European ranges between 2001 and 2008.

In the Iberian Peninsula, two target regions were selected in the Pyrenees (Ordesa) and Sierra Nevada (Granada). Researchers found that the species under study had migrated an average of 2.7m upwards. “This finding confirms the hypothesis that a rise in temperatures drives Alpine flora to migrate upwards. As a result, rival species are threatened by competitors, which are migrating to higher altitudes. These changes pose a threat to high-mountain ecosystems in the long and medium term” the authors state.

Charles Darwin introduced the idea that competition, stress, climate change and natural selection were critically important to evolution – but the imbeciles in the global warming community don’t actually understand anything about science.

When the Beagle docked at land Charles was free to explore! He set about testing Lyell’s idea, in his five years abroad he witnessed earthquakes and volcanoes, and found fossils of seashells on top of the world’s biggest mountains. Everything he saw convinced Charles that Lyell was right, so he started thinking about life as being very old and possibly changing slowly over time.

When Darwin came home he started thinking about how animals and plants change through time. He thought that maybe, different types of animals and plants could change…they could evolve! And he thought he knew why. Charles saw that individual animals and plants compete with each other for food, water and space: the things they need to live. They’re fighting for their lives!

Hansen – Busted

The Milwaukee Journal – Google News Archive Search

In 1989, the experts concluded that the US was not warming. Hansen’s 1999 graph agreed with that assessment.

Phil Jones also agreed that the US was not warming.

February 04, 1989

Last week, scientists from the United States Commerce Department’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that a study of temperature readings for the contiguous 48 states over the last century showed there had been no significant change in average temperature over that period.

Dr. (Phil) Jones said in a telephone interview today that his own results for the 48 states agreed with those findings.

Global Warmth In ’88 Is Found To Set a Record – New York Times

Hansen wrote in 1999 that the climate had improved since the 1930s.

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

No warming means no funding and no massive ego trip, so Hansen fixed the temperature record in the year 2000 to produce a lot of US warming prior to 1989.

Washington Post Explains Why Data Doesn’t Matter

Behind the present pause in global warming

The temperature departure from the 1951-1980 average over the last 12 years. Trend is about flat (slightly up). (Data from NASA) Has global warming stopped since the turn of the millennium? Yes – if you examine the data in a vacuum. But has the warming pressure on the atmosphere from man-made greenhouse gases stopped? No – not at all. A closer look at the data bears that out.

It’s easy to glance at a temperature chart of the last 12 years (to the right) and draw the conclusion warming has slowed or stopped. That’s what renowned environmental scientist James Lovelock did and he’s now told MSNBC he’s backed away from his dire concerns about global warming.

“We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now,” he said. “The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium.”

What the author is saying is that the temperature data doesn’t conform to the theory, so we should ignore the data and stick with theory.

Brain Freeze Scientists At The South Pole

iphone.anomaly.antarctic.png (512×412)

Most of the ice being lost from Antarctica is going as a result of warm water eating the fringes of the continent, scientists say.

The researchers used a satellite laser to measure the thinning occurring on ice shelves – the floating tongues of ice that jut out from the land.

The team’s analysis found the shelves’ shrinkage could not be attributed simply to warmer air temperatures.

Rather, it is warm water getting under the floating ice to melt it from below.

This is leading to a weakening of the shelves, permitting more and more ice to drain from the continent’s interior through tributary glaciers.

Previous studies have already indicated that warmer waters are being driven towards the continent by stronger westerly winds in the Southern Ocean.

Sea ice is expanding around Antarctica because the water is getting warmer. Makes sense if you have the IQ of a turnip.

Has Discovery Channel Become Interested In Science?

Last Sunday (Earth Day, no less), the Discovery Channel aired the final episode of its Frozen Planet series. Titled “On Thin Ice,” the episode captures the staggering changes in our polar regions being wrought by global warming — shrinking glaciers, rising seas, and disappearing habitats. But there was one thing missing: in 45 minutes, not a word was uttered about why all that Arctic ice is melting. In an impressive feat of journalistic malpractice, Discovery completely avoided the fact that the burning of fossil fuels causes climate change, and thanks to a New York Times article, now we know why. Discovery has admitted to censoring itself because it wanted to avoid criticism from climate change deniers.

Obama Wants To Cut Off My Funds

In an important departure from his recent administration-wide silence on climate change, President Obama announced in a Rolling Stone interview published today that he considers climate change and the money being thrown into the denial of science as one of the most important issues in the coming campaign discussion.

Part of the challenge over these past three years has been that people’s number-one priority is finding a job and paying the mortgage and dealing with high gas prices. In that environment, it’s been easy for the other side to pour millions of dollars into a campaign to debunk climate-change science.

Translation – Obama wants to divert attention away from the fact that he has borrowed $6,000,000,000,000 in the last four years.

I wonder if my $0.00 will offset the $850,000 Obama stole from our children – to study how global warming affects Prairie Dogs in Boulder?
