Measure This …. Heidi

Heidi Cullen says that she can directly measure abnormally warm US temperatures caused by CO2. I wonder what her magical thermometer would have measured in August, 1936?

Put The Secret Service In Charge Of The Budget

Cartagena’s most famous “escort” costs $800. For purposes of comparison, you can book Eliot Spitzer’s “escort” for $300. Yet, on the cold grey fiscally conservative morning after the wild socially liberal night before, Dania’s Secret Service agent offered her a mere $28.

Twenty-eight bucks! What a remarkably precise sum. Thirty dollars less a federal handling fee? Why isn’t this guy Obama’s treasury secretary or budget director? Or, at the very least, the head honcho of the General Services Administration, whose previous director has sadly had to step down after the agency’s taxpayer-funded public-servants-gone-wild Bacchanal in Vegas.

All over this dying republic, you couldn’t find a single solitary $28 item that doesn’t wind up costing at least 800 bucks by the time it’s been sluiced through the federal budgeting process. Yet, in one plucky little corner of the Secret Service, supervisor David Chaney, dog-handler Greg Stokes, or one of the other nine agents managed to turn the principles of government procurement on their head.

If the same fiscal prudence were applied to the 2011 Obama budget, the $3.598 trillion splurge would have cost just shy of $126 billion.

Weather Statistics For Mental Midgets

You hear it said — I even say it — during mild winters: “If this is global warming, I like it.”

Sure, March was warm. Then the numbers came out, and we learned just how unusual March (and the winter of 2011-12) was.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, March was the warmest in the United States since it began keeping regular weather records in 1895 with more than 15,000 high temperatures set in the month, mainly in the eastern third of the country.

And it wasn’t only March. The first three months of the year were the warmest ever recorded in the lower 48 states with an average temperature of 42 degrees. That is 6 degrees above the long- term average. To put that in perspective, it is theorized that a worldwide increase in the planet’s overall temperature of only one degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) will mean major changes to the earth’s ecosystems.

Figures show warming is real — and frightening | The Poughkeepsie Journal | poughkeepsiejournal.com

The amazing thing about weather is that when it is unusually warm one place, it is unusually cold someplace else. Alaska had one of the coldest months on record in March.

To understand how incredibly stupid this author is, you could do a study of baseball games and find that in 2012 – in 100% of of games played – one team or other has scored more runs than the mean for the game.

If you only measure places with above normal temperatures, you are going to find that the mean is above normal. March temperatures in the US vary by 15 degrees from year to year.

Global Warming Sunday Sermon

Science has been taken over by religious whack jobs (besides the usual group of socialists)

The angry, birth-giving God, judging human sin against the planet is the theological reflection we Christian theologians need to provide for Earth Day 2012, and from now on. Our message to the whole society must be strong and direct so that people can grasp the extent to which climate catastrophe is already starting, and we must act.  God is judging our sin against the planet, and She is very, very angry about it.

Time For A New Ice Age Scare?

Arctic ice area has increased by more than 10% over the last four years. Experts tell us that current weather patterns are caused by missing Arctic ice, so it follows that the excess ice is caused by missing ice.

Why Hansen’s 1981 Predictions Have Come To The Surface

Hansen’s famous 1988 predictions were a complete fustercluck, so a few weeks ago realclimate dug up an obscure forecast Hansen made in 1981, while he was still doing science.

On the 42nd Earth Day, April 22, 2012, it’s time for a change. No more flowers and beach balls that look like the earth. In Christian theological terms, it is time for righteous anger and judgment on the way in which the continued willful destruction of the planet’s ecosystem is causing widespread suffering and loss.

Flying semi-trucks and 4 feet of hail should now be our visuals for Earth Day.

The first Earth Day in 1970 is credited as launching the environmental movement and the idea of global warming. In 2012, the planet is in terrible trouble, and so is the environmental movement.

Global warming projections from thirty years ago have proved to have been remarkably accurate. Yet, there has been a steady decline in the number of Americans who say they see solid evidence of global warming.

Congratulations To NOAA And Jeff Masters

NOAA and Jeff Masters have unleashed a coup of stupidity upon the US, possibly unprecedented in the country’s history.

This year’s late winter heat wave over much of the United States, dubbed “March Madness,” has been cited as evidence that human-induced global warming is causing the climate system to stray far outside its normal range of variability. The thousands of all-time high temperature records shattered during last month’s climate rampage have been likened to home-run records shattered by a baseball player on steroids.

It is true that the signature of human-induced global warming is clearly apparent in the increasing number of new high temperature records, which are currently outnumbering low temperature records by a factor of about 3 to 1. Just as a rising tide lifts all ships, a rise in global mean temperature is bound to raise the levels of the highest temperatures.

In the absence of proof that the jet stream’s variability is human-induced, we must consider the possibility that the apparent weirdness of the weather in March isn’t all that weird if viewed in a larger historical context. In this respect, it’s noteworthy that large areas of the U.S. were just about as warm in March 1910 as they were in March 2012.With weather, weird things happen every now and again.

Melting of Siachen glacier — don’t blame global warming

Arshad H Abbasi
Sunday, April 22, 2012

Siachen is the only Glacier of Karakorum range melting with unprecedented rate, the cause of which is the military presence in the area and not global warming. The high-resolution images of the Siachen glacier show deep cracks every 10 feet (crevasses), both in longitudinal and transverse directions. The retreat of the glacier is also visible by horizontal expansion of glacial lakes throughout the glacier, but the most alarming sign is the vertical thinning of glaciers, which is aggravating the widening of crevasses at a massive scale.

India’s and Pakistan’s claim over Siachen glacier has turned the region into the highest battleground on Earth. Since, April 1984, both the countries have maintained permanent military presence up to the height of over 22,500 ft. To facilitate the forces to defend their position, both countries, especially India, has developed cantonments, forward base-camps, training schools, aviation workshops and huge ammunition storages in the area. The infrastructure, including several bunkers has also been developed by cutting and melting of glacial ice through chemicals. To facilitate troops, in the inhospitable terrain and extreme weather conditions, a kerosene pipeline has also been laid down on main glaciers by the Indian Army. Kerosene is then supplied for stoves provided at every igloo (post) for heating and cooking purposes.

Three Days Of Normal Ice

ScreenHunter 673 Apr. 22 06.55 Three Days Of Normal Ice

Same graph as I have posted for the last five days. DMI on top of NSIDC April 16, am.

NSIDC has since introduced a two day lag into their graph, so their graph should be right up against the normal line today.
