Suppose You Have 15% Concentration Ice, And The Wind Blows …

If the wind compacts the ice, the extent goes down. If the wind expands the ice surface, the extent also goes down – because it is no longer 15% concentration. Any gust of cold wind makes the extent go down.

Our alarmist friends hyperventilate with every meaningless reduction in 15% concentration ice, but the ice is not melting significantly, it is just moving around.

This is what 30% concentration ice looks like over the last week. No change.

It would be nice to have an intelligent discussion about what is happening with the ice, but that seems almost impossible.

Comparing 2011 Vs. 2007

A new village idiot has arrived who thinks that 2011 is following a similar pattern to 2007. Green represents ice present in 2011 that was not present in 2007, and red is the opposite.

Bob Berwyn Says Global Warming Is Wiping Out Colorado Trout

Anglers may have to climb high to find fish as global warming takes a toll on trout.

By Bob Berwyn
SUMMIT COUNTY — A combination of rising temperatures and changes in the timing of runoff and streamflows could reduce trout habitat in the western U.S. by about 50 percent during the next 70 years, with some populations disappearing completely within just a few decades.

It Is Worse Than We Thought : Animals Fleeing The Heat

I noticed that the deer and ants are about 10 feet higher up the mountain than they used to be.

WASHINGTON — Animals across the world are fleeing global warming by heading north much faster than they were less than a decade ago, a new study says.

About 2,000 species examined are moving away from the equator at an average rate of more than 15 feet per day, about a mile per year, according to new research published Thursday in the journal Science, which analyzed previous studies. Species are also moving up mountains to escape the heat, but more slowly, averaging about 4 feet a year.

The species — mostly from the Northern Hemisphere and including plants — moved in fits and starts, but over several decades it averages to about 8 inches an hour away from the equator.

“The speed is an important issue,” said study author Chris Thomas of the University of York. “It is faster than we thought.” AP

Melting Has Essentially Stopped In The Arctic

http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/seaice/extent/AMSRE_Sea_Ice_Area.png

One  of the regular spammers here doesn’t understand the difference between melt and compaction.  The ice area graph has been flat for about a week, indicating that there is very little melt going on. Some of the extent graphs continue to decline a little because 15% concentration ice will compact if the wind is blowing it together.

The concept of ice not melting below the freezing point seems to be beyond Mr. Duncan’s comprehension.

Fast Work!

In less than three years, Nobel Prize winner Obama has managed to bring the Middle East back to the catastrophic mess it was when  Clinton left office.

Speeding Towards A Record Minimum

The ice is the thinnest and least extensive on record. The remaining ice is all rotten, because last year was the hottest in history. We are experiencing a strong El Nino and this past summer was the hottest and driest in US history. Drought ravages the planet and millions flee the heat and rising sea levels. Malaria carrying mosquitoes and rabid bats are spreading across the planet due to record high sea surface temperatures and the most named storms in history.

This can mean only one thing – record low ice this summer.

Visiting State Number 57

I’m in Maryland today which I believe is either the 56th or 57th state – depending on how you count.

The weather is perfect here, but for some reason everything is air conditioned to Arctic conditions – making it miserable. Winter will be here soon enough, why not enjoy the summer?

GISS July : Right At Scenario C

The GISS July anomaly went up to 0.60C, which places it squarely on top of Hansen’s scenario C – i.e. zero emissions after the year 2000. An honest evaluation would say that Hansen’s model has failed and his fears are unfounded.

Romm Makes A Fool Of Himself Again

THERE IS LITTLE TO SUGGEST ANY END TO THE DROUGHT
Every state — along with much of Asia — has been hit by record temperatures this summer.

Right. This has been one of the coldest summers on record in the Pacific Northwest.
