Obama Pledges To Lose A Few Thousand More Men Before Quitting Afghanistan
Yes, Afghanistan is another Vietnam. Or maybe another Afghanistan
The Taliban lured US forces into an elaborate trap to shoot down their helicopter, killing 30 American troops in the deadliest such incident of the war, an Afghan official said Monday.
US President Barack Obama pledged that the incident — which killed 38 people — would not keep foreign forces from prevailing in Afghanistan, and the Pentagon called the downing of the Chinook a “one-off” that would not alter US strategy.

NSF Spends $700,000 On Global Warming Theatre
The country is bankrupt and the government is wasting almost a million dollars on Soviet style art propaganda.
The National Science Foundation has awarded a $700,000 grant to the Civilians, a New York theater company, to finance the production of a show about climate change. “The Great Immensity,” with a book by Steven Cosson (“This Beautiful City”) and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman (“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”), tells the story of Polly, a photojournalist who disappears while working in the rain forests of Panama.

Obama plan: Destroy Romney
In a move that will make some Democrats shudder, Obama’s high command has even studied former President George W. Bush’s 2004 takedown of Sen. John Kerry, a senior campaign adviser told POLITICO, for clues on how a president with middling approval ratings can defeat a challenger.
“Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney,” said a prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House.
The onslaught would have two aspects. The first is personal: Obama’s reelection campaign will portray the public Romney as inauthentic, unprincipled and, in a word used repeatedly by Obama’s advisers in about a dozen interviews, “weird.”

Cold Deadly For Coral
I guess there is a reason why coral grows in the tropics.
SUMMIT COUNTY — Amid all the concern over the impacts of rising sea temperatures to coral reefs, University of Georgia researchers have found that cold water is just as bad.
An extended cold snap in Florida in January and February 2010 killed nearly all the coral in a 200- to 300-year-old reef that had survived other extreme events, including the 1998 El Niño bleaching that damaged coral reefs across widespread regions of the world’s oceans.During the 2010 cold snap, water temperatures at inshore reefs in the upper Florida Keys dropped below 54 degrees and remained below 64 for two weeks. The University of Georgia team had planned to sample corals at Admiral Reef, an inshore reef off Key Largo. When they arrived, they discovered that the reef, once abundant in hard and soft corals, was essentially dead.

Obama Calls For More Borrowing To Allay Debt Fears
Pummeled by ghastly economic news, President Obama called Monday for more spending and extended tax cuts that he said would help stimulate the economy — but these also could deepen the deficit problems that helped the federal government earn its first-ever debt downgrade last week.

Who Are The 45%?
Obama has been an unmitigated disaster since well before day one, yet almost half the country still thinks he is doing a good job. What is up with that?

Unprecedented Ice Equals Dwindling Ice
A polar bear attacked five people in Norway Friday, killing a 17-year-old boy and sending four others to the hospital with serious injuries. The tourists, mainly 16- to 23-year-old students, were part of the British Schools Exploring Society visiting the remote arctic Svalbard archipelago and the Von Postbreen glacier, which is about halfway between Norway’s mainland and the North pole. The victim was British, and the injured men were the trip leaders.
Experts are saying that dwindling ice is forcing the polar bears to come farther inland to look for food.
July 27th, 2011
There was a P.bear sighting across the fjord about a mile away. Unfortunately a Westerly wind and freak climatic events have led to an unprecedented amount of ice in the fjord meaning we are marooned here for the time being.
