Tough Times For Arctic Alarmists

We have been hearing lots of rumours of record low ice in 2011, but alarmists long sought Arctic Armageddon is falling apart very rapidly. The green area (2011 ice not present in 2007) is expanding rapidly and the red area (2007 ice not present in 2011) is shrinking rapidly. Weather forecasts for the Arctic look cold for the indefinite future, so it is likely to just get worse. The ice edge hasn’t been moving for several days.

Low CO2 Snow vs. High CO2 Snow

Significant snow storms have occurred in Christchurch in 1862, 1895, 1896, 1901, 1918, 1945, 1992 and 2006 (and 2011)

The earlier storms were due to a low CO2 atmosphere, and the more recent storms are the direct result of a high CO2 atmosphere. Low CO2 snow is white, whereas high CO2 snow is white.

Australian Greens Vow To Punish Dissent

I HAVE never been so frightened for our freedom of speech than I am right now.

No, I’m not talking about my own legal troubles, with a court being asked to ban my published columns on how some people claim a “racial” identity.

No, far more chilling – because it was so shamelessly explicit – was the promise made by Greens deputy leader Christine Milne on Monday to punish newspapers which publish articles sceptical of global warming and critical of the Gillard Government.

To hear what she said on the ABC’s Q&A program in supposedly free and democratic Australia, after all the lessons we thought we’d learnt from Stalinist Russia and fascist Germany, is staggering.

Bitter frosts this morning have followed the most widespread snowfall in New Zealand in 16 years.

The MetService has lifted all snow warnings, which had been in place for Taupo, Wanganui, Manawatu, and Taihape, as snow showers have now cleared in the central North Island.

However as the skies have cleared, severe frosts have set in, particularly in the South Island.

WeatherWatch.co.nz reported severe frosts in southern centres this morning, with the mercury dropping to -8 in Queenstown, -7 in Timaru, and -5 in Christchurch.

Pet Rock “Don”

I am about to name my fourth rock of the summer “Don.” Satellite technology makes it very easy to find nameable rocks. In the 1970s, naming rocks was more of a challenge.

“As of now, I am in control here”

Who needs national governments any more? The Hague is now in control.

The international criminal court has dismissed suggestions by Britain and France that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi could be allowed to remain in Libya as part of negotiated deal to remove him from power, insisting that a new government would be obliged to arrest the dictator under warrants issued by the court.

The ICC, which Britain and France have signed up to, said that Gaddafi could not be allowed to escape justice. “He has to be arrested,” said Florence Olara, spokeswoman for the court’s chief prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo.

On Monday the foreign secretary, William Hague, said Britain was prepared to agree to a political settlement in Libya that would see Gaddafi remain in the country after relinquishing his hold on power.

Oslo Police Want Sympathy

The officers of Oslo’s elite Delta Force drove because police don’t own a transport helicopter, then were rescued by a civilian boat when their own broke down as it tried to navigate a 1-minute hop to the island. It took police more than 90 minutes to reach the gunman, who had mortally wounded 68 people. Breivik dropped his guns and surrendered, having exceeded his wildest murderous expectations.

Police spokesman Johan Fredriksen rebuffed journalists’ questions Tuesday about the planning and equipment failures that gave Breivik untold extra minutes to kill. He called the criticisms “unworthy.”

“We can take a lot, we’re professional, but we are also human beings,” Fredriksen said

Breivik’s lawyer, Geir Lippestad, said Tuesday his client was surprised that he was able even to reach the island without being stopped by police, much less be free to kill for 90 minutes or more with his assault rifle and handgun.

When officers did arrive, he immediately fell prone on the ground in surrender.
