My Combined Arctic Forecast

I’ve synthesized the Arctic data from the world’s leading scientific bodies.

  • PIOMAS says the ice is the thinnest on record
  • GISS maps consistently show the Arctic somewhere between red hot and pink hot (2-12C) above normal.
  • Last year was the hottest year ever
  • The sea ice is being undermined by unprecedented warm water coming in from underneath
  • Ocean temperatures around Greenland are record warm.
  • The ice is all rotten
  • The dipole anomaly is like 2007
  • The Arctic has been receiving excess sunshine due to a lack of cloud cover
  • Multi-year ice melts more easily than it used to
  • Older ice extent is the smallest on record
  • Extent is the lowest on record
  • Melt is the fastest on record
  • “2013 is already too conservative”

I completely trust these data sources, and can only conclude that the Arctic will be ice free in just a few weeks.

Oslo Police Say 90 Minutes Is Their Record Fast Response Time

It was an hour-and-a-half before an armed unit reached Utoeya island after the shooting began.

“I don’t think we think we could have done this faster,” Police Chief of Staff Johan Fredriksen told journalists in Oslo.

Hansen 2006 : Million Year Heatwave Coming Soon

James Hansen of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City and colleagues report that “Earth is now reaching and passing through the warmest levels in the current interglacial period” and that global temperature may be within one degree Celsius (1.8°F) of the maximum temperature of the past million years.

Hansen 2003 : Soot Twice As Bad As CO2

Soot worse for global warming than thought

Soot particles may be twice as bad as the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in contributing to global warming, suggests a new study.

Grains of soot deposited in snow have also caused about one-quarter of the observed rise in global surface temperature since 1880, suggests the model by James Hansen and Larissa Nazarenko. The pair examined how soot particles affect the atmosphere when they darken snow and ice.

Darkened snow traps more solar energy than pristine snow. The effect could explain why sea ice and glaciers are melting faster than expected from the increase in surface temperature alone, says Hansen of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York.

“The effect of soot on snow is unambiguous,” he told New Scientist. “It causes a strong warming effect.”
