Coral reef species may adjust to climate change

MANY of the world’s coral reefs, including the Great Barrier Reef, could survive the coming decades if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, a study has found.

While past research had predicted large-scale destruction from global warming was inevitable, recent studies have shown some species were more capable of adapting than others.

A marine biologist and study leader, John Pandolfi, said the response to climate change varied dramatically between regions.

”We can’t say everywhere is doomed in two decades because CO2 is this level and pH is that level; it’s just not that black and white,” said Professor Pandolfi, from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University.

”Our expectation is that some regions are less likely to completely collapse in the next few decades than others.”

About 20% of the US is experiencing a severe or worse drought now. In July, 1934 80% of the US was experiencing severe or worse drought.

What kind of genius would attribute that reduction to global warming? It is time for team AGW to commit themselves for mental rehabilitation.

Since I am 94 years old, I remember the 1930’s real unwell. In  addition to the heat we were living through the longest drought of the century, as well as being in the Great Depression. I lived in Minnesota near a 7 mile long lake which lost so much water that at the bathing beach we had to walk about 600 feet to reach the water.

That was before the days of Air Conditioning and we did not even have an electric fan. Just driving on flat ground, the water in the radiator in our car got to boiling. Whenever we stopped at a filing station to get gas the attendant would automatically add water to our radiator.

In point of fact, observed sea level rise is already above IPCC projections and strongly hints at acceleration while at the same time it appears the mass balance of continental ice envisioned by the IPCC is overly optimistic
