I Plan To Name 300 Rocks This Summer – I Just named One Cindy

Unprecedented rock naming is yet another byproduct of global warming.

SE Drought Dropping Off the Map

A few days ago the New York Times ran a piece predicting a new dust bowl in Georgia. Since that article came out, the area of exceptional drought in the southeast has dropped by more than 80%.

Shock News : The BBC Is Pushing BS

In Soviet Russia, there is no dissent. Everybody agree.

THE BBC was criticised by climate change sceptics yesterday after it emerged that their views will get less coverage because they differ from mainline scientific opinion.

In a report by its governing body, the BBC Trust, the corporation was urged to focus less on opponents of the “majority consensus” in its programmes.

It said coverage should not be tailored to represent a “false balance” of opinion if one side came from a minority group.
The report was partly based on an independent review of coverage by Steve Jones, Professor of Genetics at University College, London.

Although he found no evidence of bias in BBC output, he suggested where there is a “scientific consensus” it should not hunt out opponents purely to balance the story.

He highlighted climate change as an example along with the controversy over the Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine potentially leading to autism.

On climate change, Professor Jones said there had been a “drizzle of criticism of BBC coverage” arising from “a handful of journalists who have taken it upon themselves to keep disbelief alive”.

1934 Temperature Update With The “Heat Index”

Temperatures refuse to go up, so they had to switch to the heat index to make it sound like they are. Just to make sure we have an apples for apples comparison to the past – I did the same for June, 1934.

Unprecedented Heatindexwave

2011

The heat dome that is gripping much of the nation has 141 million people in more than two dozen states under heat advisories, while the toll in heat-related deaths stands at 22 — and there is no immediate end to the scorching temperatures in sight.

Heat indexes from 105 to 115 degrees are expected from the Midwest to the East Coast on Thursday.

Weird Goings On At CSU

The room where Fred Singer spoke at at CSU was not set up so that Fred could present any data. Sounds very suspicious to me.

Fred Singer, President of the Science and Environmental Policy Project and Professor Emeritus of Environmental Science at the University of Virginia, spoke at CSU (Colorado State University) in Ft. Collins on July 18th.  Unfortunately the room was not set up to allow Fred to present his visual aids, so Fred made his presentation without his many interesting charts.

And now today :

Climate change skeptics challenged

Though climate change skeptics Fred Singer and CSU emeritus professor William Gray dismiss their views as “bunk” and “hokum,” many atmospheric scientists at CSU agree that climate change is caused by humans, at least in part.

CSU atmospheric science professor Scott Denning said there is nearly unanimous agreement among scientists in his department that human-emitted carbon dioxide will warm the planet.

Singer, an emeritus professor at the University of Virginia who is known for his doubts about a connection between secondhand smoke and lung cancer, and Gray, who is famous for his research on hurricanes but has lately gained attention for his climate change contrarianism, spent nearly two hours at CSU on Monday evening attempting to convince an audience that climate change is harmless and helpful to humans. Worrying about climate change, Singer said, is a “psychosis.”

Gray downplayed peer review as necessary for scientific research and claimed that intellectuals and the “mainstream media” have been “brainwashed” into believing that climate change is human-caused and harmful.

But John Calderazzo, a CSU English professor who is the co-director of the Changing Climates lecture series at CSU, said understanding climate change is difficult for many people, but they need to approach the issue with the willingness to pay close attention to the details with an open mind.

The Recovery Summer

Jobless claims rise above expectations

(Reuters) – The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week, pointing to a labor market that is struggling to regain momentum.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 418,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 410,000 from a previously reported 405,000.

Adding one more person (in particular) to the unemployment roles could benefit millions.

Possible Ice Outcomes

It all depends on the weather over the next few weeks. People who play the ice extent forecast game might as well go to Vegas and roll the ice. No one on this side of heaven has any idea where the ice edge will end up.

“Worst Weather In 1,000 Years”

Top climatologist thinks we are in an El Nino.

Climatologist Cliff Harris says the extreme weather conditions are the worst the world has experienced in 1,000 years.

“It’s been a never-ending cycle,” said Harris in an interview Wednesday from his Idaho home. “Mother Nature is running rampant.”

He said the fluctuation in weather patterns isn’t a fluke; rather, it is part of a 70-year climate period that began in 1968. He said the latest episode of the strange weather began with a La Nina weather pattern, or cooler than normal sea-to-surface temperatures, and ended with an El Nino, warmer than normal water-to-surface temperatures.

Sanity In Russia – Sorely Lacking In The West

Climate change poses a major threat to future peace and security, a senior UN official has warned.

Achim Steiner from the UN Environment Programme said climate change would also “exponentially” increase the scale of natural disasters.

Starting from a baseline of zero data and simply making hysterical statements without any information to back it up.

His comments followed a UN declaration of famine in parts of Somalia.

Like they never had famines in parts of Somalia before.

Meanwhile, Russia rejected a Security Council statement backed by Western nations which asserted the link, but later agreed to a weaker text.

The Russian envoy Alexander Pankin said he was sceptical about the implications of putting climate change on the security council’s agenda.

Security Council members finally agreed to a text which spoke of the “possible security implications” of climate change.
