1970s Global Cooling Brought Repeated Catastrophic Flooding And Tornadoes To Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Australia, The US ….

If you think the climate is more severe now, you just weren’t paying attention in the past.

“There is no longer any serious debate”

There is no longer any serious debate among the world’s leading scientists, including our own, that our excessive burning of fossil fuels is warming the Earth and resulting in extreme, wildly fluctuating and increasingly unstable changes to the world’s climate: torrential rains and flooding and more severe storms in some areas, heat waves and droughts in others.

Flood plains never used to flood! Australia never used to have droughts! Harvard doctor never used to pay attention! Any scientist who disagrees is not a scientist!

Tyndall Center : Global Warming Will Kill 90% Of The Earth’s Population

Warming will ‘wipe out billions’

Professor Kevin Anderson, director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change, believes only around 10 per cent of the planet’s population – around half a billion people – will survive if global temperatures rise by 4C.Anderson’s warning comes just eight days before global leaders meet in Copenhagen for the most crucial talks on climate change reversal since the Rio summit in 1992. Current Met Office projections reveal that the lack of action in the intervening 17 years – in which emissions of climate changing gases such as carbon dioxide have soared – has set the world on a path towards potential 4C rises as early as 2060, and 6C rises by the end of the century.

Anderson, who advises the government on climate change, said the consequences were “terrifying”.

“For humanity it’s a matter of life or death,” he said. “We will not make all human beings extinct as a few people with the right sort of resources may put themselves in the right parts of the world and survive.

“But I think it’s extremely unlikely that we wouldn’t have mass death at 4C. If you have got a population of nine billion by 2050 and you hit 4C, 5C or 6C, you might have half a billion people surviving.

This Is Your Brain – This Is Your Brain On CAGW

ScienceDaily (Dec. 13, 2007) — Two researchers here spent months scouring through old expedition logs and reports, and reviewing 70-year-old maps and photos before making a surprising discovery: They found that the effects of the current warming and melting of Greenland’s glaciers that has alarmed the world’s climate scientists occurred in the decades following an abrupt warming in the 1920s.

Good news right? They discovered that climate is cyclical in Greenland. A quick stop at GISS would have given them all the information they needed.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/

Wrong. They found a way to toss logic into the AGW bottomless pit.

The fact that recent changes to Greenland’s ice sheet mirror its behavior nearly 70 years ago is increasing researchers’ confidence and alarm as to what the future holds. Recent warming around the frozen island actually lags behind the global average warming pattern by about 1-2 degrees C but if it fell into synch with global temperatures in a few years, the massive ice sheet might pass its “threshold of viability” – a tipping point where the loss of ice couldn’t be stopped.
“Once you pass that threshold,” Box said, “the current science suggests that it would become an irreversible process. And we simply don’t know how fast that might happen, how fast the ice might disappear.”

Taking The Name Of Science In Vain

Researchers at Stanford University who surveyed port authorities around the globe found most were unsure what steps to take to protect their facilities from rising sea levels and more frequent hurricane-strength storms, a Stanford release reported Monday.

“Part of the problem is that science says that by 2100, we’ll experience anywhere from 1.5 to 6 feet of sea level rise,” researcher Austin Becker said. “That’s a huge range.”

http://www.upi.com/

Does science speak? Is it a male voice or a female voice?

Whoever “science” is, math says something different. According to the EU Envisat satellite, sea level is rising at 0.9 mm/year and slowing down. That means that by 2100 we will see no more than three inches of sea level rise.

I’m tired of unscrupulous people trashing the good name of science. Having a science degree doesn’t give you the right to be dishonest or turn your brain off.

Double Dipping In The Aerosols

The official story when attempting to rewrite the history of the 1970s global cooling scare goes something like this:

In 1945, after 30 years of rapid warming, humans suddenly started dumping huge amounts of aerosol pollution into the atmosphere. When the clean air act passed in the US, suddenly the whole world stopped polluting and temperatures started to rise quickly – due to CO2 (of course.)

But now that Hansen’s 1988 forecasts have bombed, he is trying to resurrect the evil aerosols for a second round of blame.

We conclude that most climate models mix heat too efficiently into the deep ocean and as a result underestimate the negative forcing by human-made aerosols.

All climate can be explained by human made CO2 and human made aerosols, except for climate which is due to human made CFCs.

Hansen Calls Out The IPCC

The IPCC has been telling us for years that climate models are accurate and thoroughly verified. Now Hansen says that they were never very good.

From Chapter 8.1 IPCC AR4

There is considerable confidence that climate models provide credible quantitative estimates of future climate change, particularly at continental scales and above. This confidence comes from the foundation of the models in accepted physical principles and from their ability to reproduce observed features of current climate and past climate changes. Confidence in model estimates is higher for some climate variables (e.g., temperature) than for others (e.g., precipitation). Over several decades of development, models have consistently provided a robust and unambiguous picture of significant climate warming in response to increasing greenhouse gases.

Hansen – May 2011

We conclude that most climate models mix heat too efficiently into the deep ocean and as a result underestimate the negative forcing by human-made aerosols. Aerosol climate forcing today is inferred to be -1.6 \pm 0.3 W/m2, implying substantial aerosol indirect climate forcing via cloud changes. Continued failure to quantify the specific origins of this large forcing is untenable
