No Summer For The Boys Of Summer

Global warming taking its toll on baseball :

Once again, it was not a night for the boys of summer at Busch Stadium Monday night.

The weather chill has been putting quite a chill on attendance at the ballpark.

Fans are noticing it. The team is feeling it.

Most Of The Jakobshavn Glacier’s Retreat Occurred When CO2 Was Less Than 310 ppm

http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/

Our superstitious friends believe that reducing CO2 to 350 ppm will stop glaciers from retreating, despite the fact that there is not one shred of evidence to support that idea.

Arnie, Al and John Take The Moral High Ground

While lecturing us about the immorality of our modest lifestyles, global warming leaders were cranking out the CO2 and the semen.

Siemens Chief Worried That The Gravy Train Is Slowing Down

He is concerned about the climate, and wants to save it by making $billions off windmill contracts.

The head of Munich-based Siemens AG (SI)’s U.S. unit said he is unhappy that federal energy policymakers in Washington are no longer focusing on climate change.

Eric Spiegel, chief executive officer of Siemens Corp., said a national strategy is needed to reduce clean-energy technology costs and find solutions for environmental risks associated with greenhouse gases. Siemens is making wind-turbine components in Hutchinson, Kansas, and is “well on track to become one of the world’s top three providers” of turbines, according to a statement in December.

Congress no longer seems interested in tackling the issue, Spiegel said today at a clean-energy conference in Washington.

“I’m pretty concerned about where we are on climate change,” he said. There were “billions and billions and billions of dollars” in projects waiting to go forward had Congress passed climate legislation, Spiegel said. The U.S. House passed climate-change legislation in 2009. The bill died in the Senate last year.

Did Pachauri Attempt To Say Something Honest?

The rest of his comments were the usual crap, but he squeezed out a little bit of truth.

“what happens in Queensland or what happens in Russia or for that matter the floods in the Mississippi River right now, whether there is a link between those and climate change is very difficult to establish. So I don’t think anyone can make a categorical statement on that.”

“Apparently, the “scientific consensus” doesn’t have a clue about climate”

Less than a decade after the painfully dry year of 2002, the Upper Colorado River Basin is laden with snowpack that’s 160 percent of average. Total runoff this spring and summer will be huge, potentially swelling creeks and rivers to record volumes. Flush with inflows, reservoirs will fill and spill.

An Associated Press article from Dec. 5, 2008, asserted, “Western U.S. states will face more water shortages in the years ahead as climate change exacerbates the strains drought has put on the Colorado River.”

Apparently, the “scientific consensus” doesn’t have a clue about climate. Or maybe it does. To show warming trends, models used by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) depend on the assumption that climate change is man-induced. At the same time, U.S. government-funded research by Dr. Roy Spencer and others is providing mounting evidence that climate change is natural and cyclical.

When The National Academy Of Sciences Speaks, We Should Listen

Global cooling will kill us all before the year 2000.

The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down. Meteorologists disagree about the cause and extent of the cooling trend, as well as over its specific impact on local weather conditions. But they are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century. If the climatic change is as profound as some of the pessimists fear, the resulting famines could be catastrophic. “A major climatic change would force economic and social adjustments on a worldwide scale,” warns a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences, “because the global patterns of food production and population that have evolved are implicitly dependent on the climate of the present century.”

Arctic Ice Extent And The Earth’s Radiative Balance

A popular misconception of the global warming community is that low ice extent in September is a positive feedback, because the ice reflects less sunlight. This sounds convincing, until you realize that the Arctic receives very little sunlight in September, and the sunlight it does receive is at a very low angle.

The SW radiative balance is affected much more by the amount of ice in May, June and July, which hardly varies from year to year.

However, a lack of ice in September allows more LW radiation to escape from the ocean back into space, which makes low ice extent a negative feedback, rather than  positive one.

Hysterical About Records

Suppose you broke the Earth’s surface up into a grid of 100 km^2 squares. there would be more than 5 million squares. Now, suppose that the temperature record was 100 years long. On each square, on any given day, the odds of breaking a high temperature record are 100 to 1. So how many high temperature records would we expect in a year if the climate was completely stable?

5,000,000 * 365 / 100 = 18,250,000

That’s right, we expect there to be more than 18 million high temperature records per year in a perfectly stable climate.

People who get hysterical about record temperatures really have no idea what they are doing.
