Unprecedented Ice Loss Over The Last 15 Years

GISS Extrapolations : 10C Gradient Across A Few Miles

The April GISS 1200 km smoothing map mapped on to a sphere. I wonder what physical mechanism Hansen would use to explain the huge gradient across the North Pole?

Why Is GISS Diverging From HadCRUT?

http://www.woodfortrees.org/

Over the past decade, GISS has continued to show an increase in global temperatures, while HadCRUT has decreased. They have been diverging at a rate of about 1C per century, which is pretty dramatic considering that they report 0.01C precision.

Hansen wrote this last year, in a paper which has since been removed from the GISS web site.

“A likely explanation for discrepancy in identification of the warmest year is the fact that the HadCRUT analysis excludes much of the Arctic ….. (whereas GISS) estimates temperature anomalies throughout most of the Arctic.”

The image below shows in pink areas where GISS is estimating temperature anomalies in the Arctic.

From : http://data.giss.nasa.gov/

Hansen is making up numbers for 2/3 of the Arctic (using a few likely UHI affected thermometers as the basis) and reporting precision within 0.01C.  His very large Arctic anomalies massively skew his global anomaly upwards.

This isn’t science, it is closer to witchcraft.

Still Below Scenario C

http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/1988/1988_Hansen_etal.pdf

The graph above plots the GISS trend since 1960, overlaid on Hansen’s 1988 predictions. The green circle is the GISS April anomaly of 0.55.

“Scenario A assumes continued exponential trace gas growth, scenario B assumes a reduced linear linear growth of trace gases, and scenario C assumes a rapid curtailment of trace gas emissions such that the net climate forcing ceases to increase after the year 2000.”

What Is The Difference Between Osama And Grist?

Apparently not much. Both believed that it would take mass casualties of Americans to achieve their personal political goals. Both believed that global warming is destroying the planet.

5,000 Year Old Middle East Conflict Caused By SUV Drivers

Climate change threatens far more than our environment. It’s already led to the spread of infectious diseases and respiratory ailments across the globe and contributed to thousands of deaths through heat waves and other extreme weather events. It’s even fueled recent revolts in the Middle East and North Africa.

Answering Grist

Grist writers are getting increasingly desperate, which makes them more fun.

What if a hurricane even nastier than Katrina — made stronger by the warmer climate — were to barrel through Florida and leave a trail of destruction in its path?

That would be called Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

What if the American Southwest were to transform into an arid, drought-laden scorching-hot Dust Bowl and give rise to major water crises and suffering for millions?

That would be called the Dust Bowl, eighty years ago.

What if floods of biblical proportions were to devastate a major metropolis?

That would be Noah, but let’s try to keep religion out the discussion.

Well, the way some in the green community see it, such disasters would be truly terrible — truly, truly terrible, they stress — but they might be necessary to wake the public up to the threats posed by climate change.

Hoping for disaster shows everyone that your side is mentally ill.

Does this idea — that it will take a massive, climate change-related disaster to get Americans to believe in global warming — have any merit?

Like I said, you need psychiatric help.

Hansen Looking To Freeze New Zealanders

Stopping the use of coal for electricity generation is the answer to halting global warming.

This is the view of an internationally acclaimed scientist, known as the `father of climate change’, who spoke at Massey University yesterday.

Dr James Hansen is one of the world’s leading climate scientists and was in Palmerston North as part of a six-stop tour of New Zealand.

He was one of the first scientists to bring the world’s attention to global warming in the 1980s and was Director of Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

Yesterday he spoke to a packed theatre for his public lecture, which centred on leaving coal in the ground and how to persuade governments to take action to reduce carbon emissions.

He said a major problem in the pursuit of lowering carbon emissions was communication.

“It’s difficult for people to recognise that we have a crisis, but we do,” he said. “Politicians just assume we can go drill all the fossil fuels on the planet … we can’t do that.”

The crisis is that Hansen can’t admit that he is wrong, and that he is having to fudge numbers to keep any shred of credibility.

BBC News First – An Honest Discussion About Sea Level

Mining to blame for islands to sink beneath waves

Two small islands in South Asia’s first marine biosphere reserve have sunk into the sea primarily as a result of coral reef mining, experts say.

The islets were in a group in the Gulf of Mannar, between India and Sri Lanka.

Fishermen had indiscriminately and illegally mined invaluable coral reefs around the islets of Poomarichan and Villanguchalli for many decades, said S Balaji, chief conservator of forests and wildlife for that region of Tamil Nadu state.

Mr Balaji said rising sea level as a result of global warming was also a factor behind the islands’ submergence.

Mandatory global warming BS  ?????????????????

But this was questioned by Simon Holgate from the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory in Liverpool, UK, who said observations showed that the sea level in the region had been rising slower than the global average.

“I think that global sea level rise had little impact on the disappearance of these islands and it must be due to other reasons, possibly the mining of coral reefs,” Dr Holgate told BBC News.
