“Death Train” Update

“The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death”

“CEOs of fossil energy companies know what they are doing and are aware of the long-term consequences of continued business as usual. In my opinion, these CEOs should be tried for high crimes against humanity and nature.”

– James Hansen

Looks like a cold winter on the way. We are only one month into Autumn, and temperatures in Siberia are already down to -34F.

Bullsye Over Africa

GISS doesn’t have many thermometers in Africa, and many of them show cooling or no warming over the past decade.

Nevertheless, GISS does know that there is a hot spot in the middle of Africa, which covers Chad, the Central African Republic, and parts of The Congo. Three countries where GISS has little or no thermometers.

GISS also knows the global temperature within one one-hundredth of a degree. We are lucky to have such clever scientists.

Drowning The Sea Level/Global Warming Relationship Myth

One of the most often stated pieces of drivel from the climate science community, is that sea level rise is an indication of warming temperatures. In fact, there is no such correlation.

The graph below overlays global temperatures with global sea level. For the last 8,000 years, sea level has been rising while temperatures have been falling.

Working Over The MWP (And The LIA)

A picture is worth a thousand words. IPCC 1990 and 2007 on the same image, at the same scale.

We have consensus. In fact we have two diametrically opposed consensus – from the same organisation.

GISS : No Warming In The US For The Past Decade

GISS 2000-2009 (most recent available) shows that no place in the US has warmed since 2000, and that most of the US and Canada has cooled – by as much as 4C (7F.)

Sea Level Data Shatters The Hype

Lots of “hottest years ever” during the last five years. GISS says 2010 is the hottest year ever so far, ahead of 2005. NCDC says that 2010 is tied with 2007 so far as the hottest year ever. We are told that glacial and sea ice melt have been at record levels over the last five years. The Met Office tells us that ocean heat content is at the highest level on record.

Lets do the math. The two things which affect global sea level are glacial melt and water temperature. Given that both of these are supposedly at record levels. sea level would have to be rising at a record rate over the last five years. There is no other option.

In fact, it has done just the opposite. Over the last five years, sea level rise rates have significantly declined, from 3.5 mm/year to 2.0 mm/year. Identical to the rise rate for the last century.

Venus Weather Forecast

Venus has massive amounts of CO2. Temperatures on Venus are very hot. Venus is often (incorrectly) described as having a “runaway greenhouse effect.”

Surely the weather on Venus must be dominated by violent storms. We are told that more CO2 means more storms, and much more powerful storms. We are told that a few more ppm of CO2 will change Earth to be “unrecognizable.”

Well consider the plight of Venus – they have have more than 100,000 times more CO2 than Earth. And they have essentially no weather. The temperature is constant and there is almost no wind. No hurricanes, and no tornadoes.

Storms are driven by differences in temperature. Arctic amplification means that the temperature difference between the North Pole and Equator gets smaller. We would therefore expect global warming to reduce the number of severe storms, not increase them.

Why Would The Public Be Interested?

We have scientists in the public arena telling politicians that we need to completely restructure our society, massively raise taxes, propagandize our schoolchildren, diminish our lifestyles, and give up our freedoms. They also want billions of dollars, to travel to exotic locations every few months in order to make new plans for how to control the ignorant masses.

These same people also want to be left alone and not be asked any questions by the public. And they think it is unfair that they are asked questions, even when shown to be producing junk science and repressing other scientific viewpoints.

Addendum :

To be clear, this post is not about NSIDC.

NSIDC staff have always been very responsive, professional and helpful, and provide a tremendous amount of useful information about the state of the ice.
