Last winter had the largest sea ice extent in the last six years, the largest North American snow extent on record, and the second largest northern hemisphere snow extent on record. On one day in February, at least 49 US states had snow cover. Northern hemisphere albedo was very high last winter.

What did NOAA and the Army Corps of Engineers have to say about that? They ignored the evidence and went straight to the press with unsupportable remarks.

Apparently camping generates incredible amounts of heat! Enough to melt huge glaciers.

“‘There are tens of thousands of Indian and Pakistani troops encamped on the glaciers in the Himalayas that feed the rivers into Pakistan and India,’ [Holbrooke] said. ‘Their encampments are melting the glaciers very quickly. There’s a chance that river valleys in Pakistan and perhaps even India could be flooded.’

Human being’s ability to delude themselves is quite astonishing. I did my usual 25 mile ride this morning from my house up into the foothills and back. Along the way I got passed by a dozen cars like the one above.

They drive up into the mountains to ride every weekend. Many of them have some sort of green bumper stickers on their car, and they imagine that they are somehow doing something good for the environment by driving their car 80 miles and tearing up the trails in the high country.

Much of the reported warming from the 20th century was due to upwards adjustments of recent temperatures, and downwards adjustments of older temperatures.

This worked pretty well until satellites showed up and provided some badly needed checks and balances on the adjusters. Since 1990 it has been tougher to justify any further upwards adjustments to the data.

For the claimed warming since 2000, GISS has relied on their data free Arctic hole.
