Julienne Stroeve On Arctic Amplification

Just a quick comment on Arctic amplification. I sent Steve a couple of images for the month of September that show amplified warming over the Arctic, focused over the areas of ice loss, but also extending with height in the atmosphere and spread out over a larger area. As there is more open water in September, before the Ocean can once again refreeze in winter it must first release the heat it gained during summer. This will be seen in amplified warming of near surface air temperatures, extending with height in the atmosphere. The last several years have shown anomalously warm autumn temperatures related to more open water in September.

Why Are The Polar Ice Records Important?

Hansen’s 1988 forecasts for right now.

Both poles are currently experiencing recent record highs in ice extent. Why is this important?

Why Do I Do This?

Smog Over Denver

I’ve been an environmentalist all my life. I ride my bicycle almost everywhere, including commuting to the office in cold rain this morning.

I hate cars – I’d love to see 99% of them off the road. They stink, pollute, take up huge amounts of room, waste precious natural resources. Drivers are spaced out and at least one nearly hits me every week. (I did get hit by a car in April which totaled my bike after I was thrown over the hood.)

Hottest year Ever : Franny Healed The Planet!

By blowing up the unbelieving (El) Niño in her classroom, Franny has reversed Hansen’s hottest year ever! The innocent red blood she shed is turning into blue all over the globe.

The results of 10/10/10 are becoming immediately apparent in both hemispheres. At the end of 110 years of unprecedented warming, we were experiencing the hottest year ever. But in a matter of just three days since 10/10, below average temperatures are appearing everywhere.

The graph below unhides the remarkable decline.

Arrogance And Stupidity In The Press

A generation of journalists is trained to believe that humans control the climate, and that anyone who actually uses their brain to think for themselves is is a “crazy extremist.”

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure  about the former.

Hottest Year Ever : Both Poles Now Have Recent Record High Ice Extent

http://rlv.zcache.com/

Earlier I reported on the record Arctic ice in the DMI database, which goes back to 2005. Well the story gets better. Bremen is now reporting a record high for the date in their Antarctic database, which goes back to 2003.

Visualizing The USHCN Temperature “Adjustments”

Thanks to reader “bbttxu” for this idea. He pointed out a discrepancy between the NOAA year to date temperature anomaly map and the NCDC year to date anomaly number.

http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/products/maps/acis/YearTDeptUS.png

When I numerically integrated the NOAA map above, I came up with a YTD anomaly of 0.38ºF. But NCDC shows a much larger anomaly of 1 .03ºF for the current year, as seen below.

GRACE – Clueless AGW Science

Last November, the headlines read “NASA Satellites Detect Unexpected Ice Loss in East Antarctica”

Remarkably, they claimed that ice was disappearing at a rapid rate from an area of East Antarctica (500 km from the coast) – where the temperature never gets anywhere close to the melting point.
