The Black Hole Of Climate Science

The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool.

Richard P. Feynman

Last Monday in Los Alamos, I attended a lecture about black holes and gravity waves given by Nobel laureate Kip Thorne.  He detailed the long history of this research going back to Einstein and Oppenheimer.  As he described it, they were extremely careful about interpreting LIGO gravity wave measurements, and when they first detected one (after 20 years of searching) they were very skeptical, and even suspected someone had hacked the data as a prank.

Compare vs. climate science, where they intentionally hack their own data to achieve the results they want.

Climate Math

Last night, the UK was generating 530,000 KW of wind and solar power, two percent of their needs.

National Grid: Live Status

Tesla fast chargers use 150KW, so all of the solar/wind power in Britain being generated last night would be enough electricity to power 3,500 Tesla chargers – and nothing else.  Good thing the other 65 million people in Britain don’t need any electricity – for weeks at a time.

China has the problem under control though. They are building enough new coal fired power plants to match the entire coal capacity of the United States.

But US Democrats won’t be able to tackle this issue until they resolve the problem of Guam tipping over.

Third Anniversary Of The California Permanent Drought

Three years ago today, the New York Times and Governor Jerry Brown announced the California Permanent Drought.

Thanks El Niño, But California’s Drought Is Probably Forever | WIRED

The drought is now so deep, residents have to dig their way out of it.

In Mammoth, the snow is so deep residents must tunnel out. There’s a history to that – Los Angeles Times

Two of the last three years had record snow in California, so the San Francisco Chronicle has quite predictably announced the end of California skiing.

Hottest May Ever!

Last year, NOAA declared May to be the hottest ever.

Contiguous U.S. had its warmest May on record | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Their claim isn’t true – May 1934 was much hotter.

The frequency of hot days last May wasn’t in the top ten.

This claim from NOAA was particularly misleading.

During May, 1934 Minnesota had eleven days over 100F, starting on May 8, and peaking at 108F on May 31.

The record heat of 1934 wasn’t convenient for NOAA and NASA – so they simply erased it.

NASA 1999   NASA 2016

This May is starting out with record cold and snow.

Here in Boulder, today was the first May 9th not to reach 40 degrees.  The previous coldest May 9th was 45 degrees in 1917. We had our 28th snow of the year today, and the fourth snow day this month.

But facts don’t matter to climate alarmists.  All they need is a good appeal to authority to shut their brain down.

Ireland Wants Their Potato Famine Back!

Steve Goddard on Twitter: “The potato famine occurred with CO2 below 300 PPM. Perhaps they want to go back to those days?… “

Ireland’s hottest year was 1921, when afternoon temperatures averaged a blistering 58F.

And in 1995, Ireland had a terrifying 12% of days over 70F.

Quite a crisis they are having.

1895-1896 : Two Hottest May 9ths In The US

Today will be one of the coldest May 9ths on record in the US.  The two hottest occurred in 1895 and 1896.

Arizona had their record heatwave in 1896. Parker, Az had seven consecutive days over 120 degrees, a record only matched in 1905.

January, 1896 was the hottest month on record in New South Wales.

Europe was hot in 1896.

A ten day heatwave during August 1896 killed thousands of people in the US, many of them in New York.

1896 Heatwave

That was also an important year for global warming junk science.

As early as in 1896, Swedish physicist Arrhenius proposed that the presence of atmospheric greenhouse gases may result in warmer surface temperatures on Earth than a simple radiative balance would imply. A comparison between measured surface temperatures and estimated effective temperatures (assuming the planets behave like black bodies and are at radiational equilibrium) of the planets in our solar system has later revealed that planets with thick atmospheres, such as Venus and Earth, have a warmer surface than a simple radiation equilibrium can explain (Houghton 1991). The high surface temperature can be attributed to the greenhouse effect proposed by Arrhenius

After 125 years of fact-free global warming group think, scientists now say global warming causes an “early spring.”
