Tornadoes have killed more people this year than they have since 1953. This has some wondering whether higher global temperatures might be contributing. The answer: there isn’t a statistical correlation between the number of tornadoes and rising temperatures. Yet scientists predict that climate change will bring increasingly harsh weather, and that’s got some commentators wondering whether this year’s tornadoes, record floods, and droughts, might be connected.
Actually we do know. There is an anti-correlation. As temperatures go up, violent tornadoes go down. Why would MIT try to claim otherwise?

Actually we don’t know anything about the global thermo-hydrodynamic system- nothing is proved at all. However most climate model tend to suggest that with rising temperatures come reduced numbers of tornadoes is what you mean and of course death rate from tornadoes is hardly a good measure of their general intensity or number. If one severe tornado went through high population density with absymal tornado defences due to corruption etc. such as Haiti of course a lot of people die. A hundred severe tornadoes going through unpopulated areas of world such as oceans, deserts wouldn’t even have one death.
What is profound is some people think climate model match the complexity and depth of reality.

Maybe you should bring this to the attention of the people writing the “scare” articles and implying otherwise.
Now every time there is bad weather, regardless of what form it takes, it will be blamed on global warming/climate change.
Going into this tornado season, it was quite apparent to anyone that has checked the records that we were way overdue a big tornado catastrophe. The law of averages has a way of catching up sooner or later.
The Technology Review article is pure slant and propaganda – devoid of anything interesting or new.
First sentence, a grabber stating that tornadoes have killed more this year than since 1953. Followed by “this has some wondering whether….”. Who are these “some” that “wonder”? Well wonder no more because in the next sentence “The answer: there isn’t a statistical correlation between the number of tornadoes and rising temperature.” Wrong. See above, see Dr Spencer’ s blog and check the stats yourself. There is an anti-correlation in the recent record.
Next sentence – “Yet scientists predict that climate change will bring increasingly harsh weather”. . . Which scientists? What harsh weather compared to what and when. “…and that’s got some commentator wondering”, OMG now we have “wondering commentators” the plot thickens.
Bullis then just pulls quotes from the usual entirely unreliable news sources and wraps it all up with a nod and a wink to Bill McKibben, IMO one of the most unbalanced, irrational, publicity seeking leeches in the entire climate business (350 ppm is a the max CO2 mother Gaia can handle? What?!) who then says, thick with sarcasm, we shouldn’t wonder or make connections, of course, suggesting that tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, droughts, wildfires et al are all related…the implication is that they are all caused by climate change – man made of course.
The entire article is based on “wonder”. Wow. Heavy science they got there at Technology Review – not.
