What Is The Point?

The point is, that we are being fed a continuous stream of disinformation from sources we are supposed to be able to trust. Is it malicious, or is it Hanlon’s Razor?

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

“The point is, that we are being fed a continuous stream of disinformation from sources we are supposed to be able to trust.”

Another point is that we learn to mistrust them and switch to other sources, even laughing at their stupidity as we move on and they don’t.

  2. Latitude says:

    They are not that stupid…..

In order to do the work they do, they have to look at actual records.

In order to say the things they say, they have to lie……………..

    • Jimbo says:

They lie because they know the media simply turns a blid eye or can’t be bothered to investigate. They don’t ask a simple question like: If the glaciers are melting and it’s been the hottest decade and year on record then why isn’t the rate of sea level rise accelerating? Why has it recently been decelerating? Why has global warming effectively stopped? ………………………….

  3. Jimash says:

    It is malicious, extremely so.
    How do I know ?
I’m stupid, stupid doesn’t go that far. Stupid eventually gives up.

  4. Mike Davis says:

I went to a “reliable source” for an answer to your question and came awat with this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Point!
The round-headed Oblio has had to wear a pointed hat since birth to conceal his “pointless” condition from his pointy-headed peers. However, Oblio is accepted in the town despite his nonconformity until one day when the son of an evil Count in the land is unwittingly dishonored by Oblio. The Count’s son challenges Oblio to a one-on-one game of Triangle Toss (where participants catch the triangle on their heads), which Oblio wins. In a fit of rage, the Count (who wants his son to rule the land one day) confronts the King, who is a good King, to reaffirm the law of the land, which states that those who are pointless must be banished from the kingdom and into the Pointless Forest. A jury reluctantly convicts both Oblio and his dog Arrow (who helped him win the Triangle Toss), leaving the king no choice but to send the pair away.

  5. Mike Davis says:

There are also media outlets that think of themselves as “The Point”. I even found a community activist web site known as “The Point”.

  6. Sundance says:

@ Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

I’ll have to remember this when I encounter those who embrace the climate change rapture prophecies of James Hansen.

    • Jimbo says:

With AGW we continue to see failed predictions just like with the Rapture failure yesterday. They have many similarities the most important one being that they have convinced themselves that we are all going to fry no matter what the evidence to the contrary.

      • Mike Davis says:

The Rapture may not have failed! Just because you know of no one that was taken during the rapture does not mean it did not occur. For all you know Steven could have been extracted and these posts are set to post at random times to appear as if Steven is still with us. I could be communicating through a Medium. You could be communicating through a medium. We just do not have enough data to do a statistical analysis.
Stranger things have happened, Supposedly intelligent people believe that CO2 will cause weather problems. Imagine that!!!

I was taken up, but then sent back to give mankind a message of great joy.

  7. Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

There’s a lot of money involved in global warming. It has been asked how good people in Germany joined the Nazi war movement, including scientists, good scientists. The attraction of money and power has been too strong in some cases for even ‘good people’ to resist. Scientists are humans too.

Let’s not fool ourselves that scientists are purely in pursuit of knowledge. They aren’t all Richard Feynman and Albert Einstein.

  8. NikFromNYC says:

It has little to do with intelligence, nor of malice. It’s panic, the final death throes of the meek failing to inherit the Earth, the anxiety of a vampire family lost all night as the sun threatens to rise any moment, the existential spiritual horror of doomsday cult members whose star failed to rise in the sky at the anointed time.

“Rejoicing, our spirits strove upwards, breaking bounds, and as they looked about, alas!, there was but infinite emptiness.” – Friedrich Hölderlin

  9. Al Gored says:

Manipulative is the word I would use. The malice part is closer to the source of it.

In terms of the supposed ‘scientists’ working for the AGW cause, most of them are just ‘good Germans’ who stay silent and, at lower levels, just self serving drones who don’t know any better. Climatutes.

  10. John Silver says:

Yet another similar epigram (“Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence”) has been widely attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte.

  11. “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity”

Very true. But, man, has this administration tested the limits on this proposition!
