Forget about those predicting the world ending on December 21, 2012. There’s a group foreseeing an apocalypse sooner … much sooner actually.
Family Radio Group is waiting for what they call Judgment Day and doing the math.It starts out with some simple arithmetic: 4990 plus 2011 minus one equals 7000. That’s how the group’s leader, Harold Camping, is predicting the demise of the world.
The group believes Noah built his ark in the year 4990 BC when they say God told Noah he had seven days to escape worldwide destruction.
But Family Radio interprets one day as 1000 years making seven days equal 7000 years and since there was no year zero (hence, the minus one), we arrive at 4990 + 2011 – 1 = 7000 a.k.a. this year.
Family Radio says in the 2nd month, the 17th day of the month a flood will strike the earth. Most people today follow the Gregorian calendar where May 21st is the 21st day of the fifth month, but the group says that date is also the 17th day of the 2nd month of the Biblical calendar of our day.
The group also states the flood waters of Noah also began on the 17th day of the 2nd month, in the year 4990 B.C.
However their timing may well be off because:

Exactly. Even without the above reference, I believe the literal reading of the Old Testament places Noah’s flood around 2300 BC…I don’t know where this guy got his number.

That is a trick question! 😉 They both follow their “interpretation” of the teachings of their particular sect. There are as many interpretations as there are Churches of research groups for both “Faiths”.
This man, Harold Camping, has predicted the end of the world more than once. He always finds an excuse why he was wrong. A friend of mine said he heard him on the radio saying this time there is no question, this is the end. But I think I’ve figured out what his excuse will be this time, something along the lines of how from the Bible book of Johah and Nineveh’s certain destruction being averted because of Jonah’s preaching. I think he will say the destruction of the world was averted because of his preaching.
He’ll be offering kool-aid next.

If there was a flood that became the story we know about Noah, I think it occurred at the onset of the Holocene.
The weather was wierd during Noah’x time. Record floods and record drought, all at the same time!
