Sea Ice News

Arctic ice area is normal. Antarctic ice area is above normal. Temperatures in the Arctic have been below normal. Malsowski and Gore were wrong. Serreze is breathtakingly ignorant.

Time to stop scaring kiddies for dollars.

Steve, more people need to be aware of this maneuver.

“The White House recently released an update of its Working Group’s estimates of the so-called “social cost of carbon” (SCC). The relevant figures, which will guide federal regulatory decisions, have in some cases more than doubled in just three years. In this post I’ll show just how dubious these moves are, and that there is little “science” behind the whopping numbers.”

    Steven,

As we discussed last year, there is going to be a lag between the cooling we are now beginning to see, and the recovery of arctic end of summer ice. In the long run, “record” low end of summer arctic ice extent (or volume, if extent doesn’t help your case) will make little climatic difference. That being said, local storm conditions in the arctic right now, and over the past several weeks, will in all liklihood expose a lot of ice to melting this summer. The melt season still has another 90 to 100 days to go. We will in all liklihood see a minimum extent as low, or lower than last year. Not to worry, the recovery will begin in earnest in the next three to four years. The wailing and gnashing of teeth over early 21st century Arctic ice extent minimums is truly a tempest in a teapot.

Variations at this time of year in the Arctic as not as big as in summer in recent years so lets see how normal it is come September.
