ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—An ambitious plan to deal with climate change. This week, Gov. Martin O’Malley made major strides with the scientific community, which says our state is in the target zone for the affects of extreme weather.
Experts say climate change is to blame for the increase in severe storms, flooding and extreme temperatures.
And data shows Maryland is vulnerable to the rise in sea level, possibly losing precious land to climate change long term.
“Last year we experienced the hottest year on record,” said Gov. O’Malley.

Untampered data shows that 2012 was the fifth warmest year in Maryland, after 1998, 1990, 1991 and 1949.
Most of that warmth was due to nighttime temperatures. Daytime temperatures were tenth warmest in 2012
But the real kicker is that most of that warmth was due to a mild winter and spring. Summer maximum temperatures last year in Maryland didn’t even rank in the top twenty, and the summer of 1929 was more than 1.5C hotter.
Once again, we see a delusional politician using fake numbers from NOAA as an excuse to pretend that his meaningless gestures are saving the planet. But it is worse than it seems. Even after NCDC cheating, 2012 still wasn’t the warmest year in Maryland.
No significant warming since 1950. But the Kool Aid has been consumed anyhow.
And the sea level changes are due to Earth’s crust rebounding since last ice age centered on polar region. That part of Atlantic coastline is sinking faster than other parts.
Plus the Cheasapeake side is affected by Army Corps of Engineers tampering with coastlines, and the 23-mile Bridge-Tunnel’s effect on natural currents in the Bay.
A good portion of the shore line is sinking because it is river delta/ marsh/ swamp/ reclaimed, whatever you want to call it.
Maryland needs all the help they can get! Their main problem is land sinking along the shore as they have a great deal of shore line. I drove through there last year and was looking to move into the region. However when I saw all the “Emergency Evacuation” route signs along the roads,I knew that was no place for me. If nothing else I can now say I have seen the Bay and the Eastern Shore.
