“…the total estimated ice area is underestimated due to unclassified coastal regions where mixed land/sea pixels confuse the applied ice type algorithm.”
Steve, would you know if there have been any recent changes to the image analysis algorithms that resulted in ice reported in previously unclassified regions? This could result in slightly higher sea ice extent values. I ask only in anticipation of possible rebuttal from warmist types when discussing the sea ice data.
Be warned that these algorithms have been heavily criticised by Greenpeace for overestimating ice extent as a result of their confusing sea ice with the bodies of drowned polar bears. The effect is enchanced due to a build up of multi-year bears since 2003.
Speaking of Greenpeace, even CNN is getting fed up…
“CNN’s Jeanne Moos has for many years specialized in quirky human interest stories at the venerable cable channel. This week she ripped Greenpeace for its latest video featuring a disheveled and depressing Santa that makes Billy Bob Thorton’s iconic “Bad Santa” look as warm as the one from “Miracle on 34th Street.”
You see, says Greenpeace’s Apocalyptic Santa, if the ice doesn’t stop melting at the North Pole, “there may be no alternative but to cancel Christmas.” Worry not, kids. Arctic ice has actually increased this year to its highest point in about a decade, which Moos notes in her report.”

Tom warmist use a bay in the norht of the artic to proof you wrong. And even if thats not the case they alway will call it’s happening becaus of global warming. Yes the erarht get warmer so you get more ice.
Well, lying is their expertise after all.
Yes but they do it whilst “caring” so that’s OK.
It’s not so much “caring” as “perverse enjoyment of giving pain”.
But if you’re “caring” then that gets you on the BBC and in The Guardian in the UK. You can get the “caring” smug pious award and lots of similar people patting you on the back.
You can “feel good about yourself” at no cost to yourself. What’s there not to like?
