I guess Laden ever heard the idiom about when it is time to stop digging.

  2. Andy says:

Never heard of this chap and he might be right of Antarctica, but better to press him on why the Arctic has such more extent over the summer rather than expected and now it seems that the thickness is larger than expected too

I’d like you to ask him about this Steve if you could.

    Cheers

Meanwhile on ESPN’s climate watch twitter account….

He steps into the ring, and what!
    Wow!
    First punch and he’s down,
Goddard’s done it again with that big hay-maker of a right-handed fact.
    Match over!
There is only one question left –
    who’s next?

  4. geran says:

Laden used the word “confused”. At least he knows the word. Now, if he can only learn how it applies….

  5. sonsinger says:

If Mr. Gleick is so worried about carbon, why did he offer to crank up the air conditioner?

He learned well from that jet-setter, Al Gore. The people who suffer most from the carbon tax can live without air-conditioning. Those who promote the carbon tax can use all of the air conditioning (and private jet flights) that they want.

  6. sonsinger says:

Huff Post says poison ivy plants will grow larger because of increased CO2. Somehow, the alarmists forget to mention that ALL green plants, food crops included, will benefit from increased CO2, including food crops. Is the Huff Post supposed to be a journalistic endeavor, or is it totally dedicated to propaganda? And yet, they still sell advertizing to Cadillac.

  7. Rosco says:

I thought I remembered alarming stories about Antarctic ice melting perilously – the collapse of an ice shelf – perhaps I’m wrong ?

Of course Steve is right – if all the northern hemisphere ice melted it will cause about 24 feet of sea level rise – it takes Antarctica to see Hansen’s often quoted 200 foot sea level rise.

If AGW models do not predict southern SEA ICE reduction Greg why has Hansen EVEN mentioned his famous 200 foot rise in sea levels ?

Increased sea ice in the Antarctic is absolute proof the oceans are not hiding the missing heat ! Antarctica is completely surrounded by open ocean unlike the Arctic ocean where the warm currents are concentrated by the continents and this causes the majority of the seasonal melt.

Warm water melting ice where the density ratios are similar versus cold air melting ice where the density ratios are 1000:1 against – c’mon !

Somehow the Antarctic ice shelf is going to melt but not the SEA ICE ? Pull the other one !

  8. Les Johnson says:

I gave Greg 3 references to models showing SH ice declining, including CMIP5 and the IPCC AR4.

    Crickets.

  9. Eric Simpson says:

These people are outright unabashed liars. To reiterate a point, they have been told explicitly by leaders of the ipcc that they should lie to promote their “cause,” to dupe the public (“the little people”).
“I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of .. how dangerous it is.” -Al Gore
“We have to offer up scary scenarios… each of us has to decide the right balance between being effective [lying] and being honest [ineffective].” -Stephen Schneider, lead ipcc author, 1989
“It doesn’t matter what is true, it only matters what people believe is true.” -Paul Watson, Greenpeace
“Unless we announce disasters no one will listen.” -Sir John Houghton, first chairman of ipcc
Obama is the same way. Worse maybe. But his thing was just to restate things by saying “I’ve always said” so and so when he’d never said so and so, and then an inattentive fawning public would just go along with it. But that didn’t fly with the “if you like your plan, you can keep it” thing where Obama said “what I said was that if you like your plan you can keep it.. IF it hasn’t changed in any way.” NOT! People were paying attention! Obama said “PERIOD, no matter what, end of story,” not IF!
Problem is that the lying ecodorks also know that few are paying attention, so they bullshit and lie, and glaringly fudge and manipulate the data also. They need to be set straight, over and over again. At some point their blatant lies and flagrant dishonesty will catch up with them, like it did with the mendacious Obama.

  10. Andy DC says:

If Antarctic sea ice was not supposed to melt, where did this BS about penguins dying and 200 ft. sea level rise come from? They wouldn’t be stupid enough to say that the interior would melt and the sea ice not. Or would they?

  11. Tel says:

Changes in the Southern Ocean and impacts on its life: Climate change is likely to produce long-term—perhaps irreversible—changes in the physical oceanography and ecology of the Southern Ocean. Projected reductions in sea-ice extent will alter under-ice biota and spring bloom in the sea-ice marginal zone and will cause profound impacts at all levels in the food chain, from algae to krill to the great whales. Marine mammals and birds, which have life histories that tie them to specific breeding sites, will be severely affected by shifts in their foraging habitats and migration of prey species. Warmer water will potentially intensify biological activity and growth rates of fish. Ultimately, this should lead to an increase in the catch of marketable fish, and retreat of sea ice will provide easier access to southern fisheries.

That’s from Working Group II: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, part of the Third Assessment Report, from 2001.
