Only 92% warming?! gator, you are far to optimistic. 100% is warming, yes, even the sea ice. That is why the sea ice is expanding; things expand when the get warmer. If only you sceptics would learn science and be educated, then you would see how simple it is!
(I hope I don’t have to say that that was sarcasm. I wish I could say it was a parody of CAGW cultists, but I can honestly imagine one of them saying something that wacky. The sad part is that they would still be certain that they were saying something brilliant.)
I know they have said that both more and less sea ice (hurricanes, tornadoes snow, etc.) are consistent with a warming planet. Only no change in sea ice is consistent with a non-warming climate and even that is questionable!
Why is it that the original cherry pickers always want to bring up the cherry picking of others? It’s called ‘projection’, and part of the leftist mental disorder.
1979 was not ‘normal’, get over it. Parrots have Disorders.
But why has Steve picked 16th Dec? He could have also picked 27th June and shown a very clear trend in the reduction of the total sea ice area http://imgur.com/zHe028u.jpg
Anyway lets compare the whole of 1988 and 2013 rather than the last month or so http://imgur.com/1444nSg.jpg hmm for the most part there has been less ice this year, oops.
For a better look lets subtract one from the other 1988 – 2013 http://imgur.com/KELoLed.jpg
And here are both years sea ice anomaly using the 1979 to 2008 daily average http://imgur.com/jewgEWU.jpg
It is true that 2013 has seen an increase in sea ice compared with other more recent years, but still this has only knocked it up to the long term average, looking over the entire data set there is a clear downward trend.
“A peer-reviewed paper published in the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences finds that Arctic sea ice extent at the end of the 20th century was more extensive than most of the past 9000 years. The paper also finds that Arctic sea ice extent was on a declining trend over the past 9000 years, but recovered beginning sometime over the past 1000 years and has been relatively stable and extensive since.”
Inc, I thought that December was the last month of the year and maybe should be used to show a trend, since it contains the last information available regarding the sea ice; therefore, your “cherry pick” should have been kept out of this in order to not make you appear to be foolish.
Since the satellite record begins in the year 1978, allow me to pick some historical occurrence that took place regarding sea ice in the Arctic.
It’s not the area of ice that matters, it’s volume. Oh, the volume is higher too? OK. It’s not the volume, it’s the thickness. Oh, that too? It’s the temperature. There’s more ice, but it’s warmer ice. That’s the ticket.
And more proof is it snowing in Cairo for the first time in 112 years. Because the climate has changed (warmed) snow is just not melting on the way down from the clouds, so we get a foot of snow when it’s 70°f! Lol.
Poor ol’ aunt arctica. Nobody pays attention to her anymore since she gained all that girth. Looking into my NASA crystal ball (came in a box of Lucky Stars cereal) I see the same fate north of the arctic circle. Will melting glaciers make a comeback? Or is it time for the left to play their ace in the hole and focus on the unusual short amount of time it takes for an ice cube to melt in Leo Dicaprio’s cocktail?
As more heat accumulates in our climate, so too will more ice follow. Don’t believe me? Place a pot of water on your stove, turn up the heat and watch it freeze! IPCC redefined physics or haven’t yo heard.

This extreme weather event is another sign of global warming
Yes, but sea ice only covers about 8% of the Earth’s surface. The other 92% is warming. đ

The ice is masking the other 8%.
Great reply – had me fooled for a minute!
Its amazing the results you can get when you cherry pick your data.
Was there an OFA seminar which taught scientifically illiterate people to cut and paste phrases which they don’t understand?
Perhaps,
However I do hold a PhD in Physics so I would not know.
The Appell is strong in you. He can’t resist mentioning his degree…
Pull the other one, inc. It plays Jingle Bells.
You should return that PhD and try to get your money back.
Ben it was Steve that accused me of being scientifically illiterate, I was pointing out this is not the case.
Steve I didn’t have to pay for my qualification.
It is a shame your instant reaction to my small post was insults.
Why is it that the original cherry pickers always want to bring up the cherry picking of others? It’s called ‘projection’, and part of the leftist mental disorder.
1979 was not ‘normal’, get over it. Parrots have Disorders.
What about 1979?

‘What about 1979?’
What about the last 9000 years? đ
Enough cherries parrot!
Actually, if you look at 27th June, you’ll find that it is still cyclical, just a longer wavelength. There is still zero trend:

Here is the best fit wave for all dates:

And a PhD (piled higher and deeper) in physics qualifies you as a climatologist, how?
Just asking. BTW, when are you going to figure out those last 10^33 seconds?
Have a Merry Christmas!
Do you actually believe that a several million km^2 increase in global sea ice area is “cherry picking” ?
Compared to what?
We could also pick 30th April and show that there was actually a decrease in sea ice level between 2012 and 2013.
Why not look at the interglacial?
“A peer-reviewed paper published in the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences finds that Arctic sea ice extent at the end of the 20th century was more extensive than most of the past 9000 years. Gosh, I just hope that he left a message behind! A message with the REAL date for the end of the world!
Odd that he did not see this coming.
It’s not the area of ice that matters, it’s volume. Oh, the volume is higher too? OK. It’s not the volume, it’s the thickness. Oh, that too? It’s the temperature. There’s more ice, but it’s warmer ice. That’s the ticket.
Global warming actually makes ice freeze at a higher temperature so the record ice extent at both poles is further proof of global warming.

It’s Ice-9 contamination. We’re all doomed!!
Ice-9*
* That is in the Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. context. I had no idea the term had gotten beyond the Dead’s production company.
and from the news media we hear ””crickets””’ however, if it was second lowest on record…front page
It must be dirty ice. Something like Pykrete.

Yes, the fact that you misuse the term “cherry pick[ing]” indicates that you’re the ordinary kind of illiterate.
You really are the World’s Greatest Dad! It even says so on your coffee cup!
Maybe it’s “the wrong type of ice”?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_wrong_type_of_snow
Steven, firmly in the “denialist” camp.
Just wondering. Why does the data set in the link cut off at 2008?
Disregard the above. Only the link title shows 2008. I see the data set includes 2013. My bad.
It is becoming abundantly clear that sea ice is cyclical, not linear.
“Denialist” camp?
What does that mean?
As more heat accumulates in our climate, so too will more ice follow. Don’t believe me? Place a pot of water on your stove, turn up the heat and watch it freeze! IPCC redefined physics or haven’t yo heard.
Jason, actully the water molecule expands in both directions from its neutral state, grows about 7% by freezing and about 1500% by warming to steam.
I think Joe Bastardi should give you credit on your charts Steve…
