Google News archives used to be searchable for historical information, but no more. Until a few days ago, this search returned hundreds of items. Now it returns nothing.

It is difficult to control the past when there is an historical record available.

Performing a search with Google today is like asking Goebels if he was responsible for the Holocaust.
Does not search the newspaper archive
I got it on Google.ca
https://www.google.com/search?q=hansen%20sea%20level%20rise%20%20site:news.google.com/newspapers&source=newspapers
That is a web search, not a google news archive search. The google news archive search no longer works. That was where I used to get much of my historical newspaper information from.
Steve put a space between the colon ” : ” and the word “news”

Don’t panic Steve… lol.
You need to put a double space before “site:news.google.com/newspapers” after your keywords, this maybe a new search engine update or a parsing error on your Android.

Ah, I understand what you mean now… Sorry Steve, the “archive search” does now appear to be integrated into a Google WEB search.
Confirmed, I did an archive Search “hansen sea level rise” and I got only 86 results all of which have an alarmist slant.
I have to say, this is either a real balls up by Google or they have indeed implemented a sinister form of censorship.
Disgusted…
…you’re one of us now…
Wikipedia on Google News Archive:
“On December 16, 2013, a Google News employee stated in Google Product Forums that Google News is “performing a much needed facelift on our News Archive search function,” and that access to archived stories would be limited for several months while “this new system” is being built. As of December 17, 2013, newspapers at news.google.com/newspapers are still available for browsing.”
The above Google links offer only 44 hits.
Sounds like complete bullshit to me. They pulled the same crap when they wanted to get rid of Google Voice phone calls.
Suggest leaving a few thousand feedbacks on that page. Not sure it will work, but at least they will know that we know. Maybe a new #hashtag about Google censorship would work…
Try Bing, Steve.
“james hansen sea level rise site : news.google.com/newspapers” brings up 44,900 results.
Hope that helps.
Thanks. That doesn’t allow filtering by date, but at least does a search.
Awesome. I could see a very effective TV commercial about how Bing can search Google archives, but Google can’t. Don’t get scroogled!
Unfortunately it is almost useless, because it gets flooded with recent results.
4 other randomly selected words didn’t work either. Does not appear to be a climate related glitch…
Shadowy, underhanded tactics by LexisNexis.
Silly jokes aside: doesn’t seem to be a simple, free alternative. Hooray for google deciding that their functional stuff needs a facelift.
I know, all this stuff needs to really make it punchy is some shiny buttons & reduced functionality & it needs to be based on javascript so it takes 5x as long to load, & 50% of the time it just makes a weird farting noise & doesn’t give any results.
Welcome-welcome-welcome to-to-to the-the-the future-future-future. (Reminds me of Firesign Theatre’s “We’re All Bozos On This Bus”. Many moons ago.)
It is quite specific too, you CAN search the newspaper archive for all sorts of other topics, just not that one.
Searching the newspapers for “Michael Mann” finds heaps of stuff, but searching for “Michael Mann climate” finds nothing at all. You can search for just “sea level rise” no problem, but not for “Hansen sea level rise”.
All that good work google did for China is paying off!
